Gas pains

Anyone's baby waking up at night with gas pains? DD has been waking up screaming/crying, arching her back and rolling around trying to pass gas. Sometimes she's able to go back to sleep right away and other times she's up for a couple hours. I use to blame it on teething. I'm trying to cut back on dairy again (I did when she was a couple months old for reflux), I'm still BF and she's eating 3 meals a day. I try not to give her any gassy foods and give her gas drops when needed. When I talked to my mom about it she said I'm causing DD to have allergies and stomach problems by not feeding her enough food

Re: Gas pains

  • DS was doing this around 10 months on and off for about a month. He became this screaming back arching crazy baby in the middle of the night and the only way he would settle was if I nursed. I started giving him gripe water (the kind without alcohol) every night right after his dinner which is about an hour before he goes to sleep. Most nights it did the trick and if he woke he would just be restless for a minute then go back to sleep. Some nights if i forgot I would give it to him right at bed time or even in the nitif he woke screaming and that worked just fine too, it often encourages my son to have a poop soi prefer to give it well before bed in case he poops. Good luck and I wouldn't worry about "giving her allergies". As long as you are still offering her everything then I wouldn't worry. When my son has a cold I often cut back on yogurt as I find he gets more mucousy if he has a lot of yogurt. Whatever works for your LO is the right thing to do. But I definitely recommend gripe water if you've never tried it.

  • My little guy has had bad gas from the get go, so it was slow starting solids. I'm still nursing a few times a day (morning, naps, and bedtime and typically at least once at night) and he gets 3 meals daily. We are introducing more solid foods slowly, but each time he gets a larger serving of something new (especially fruit or real finger foods - not puree) he is up with gas pains during the night just like you described. I ended up trying to stick to purees or gentler solids (something he has had before without reaction) at dinner time and trying out new foods at breakfast or lunch. Sometimes gas drops help, sometimes gripe water, sometimes nothing works :( DS is starting to spit out pureed food at me, and wants more real food, so we will see if his stomach agrees. Good luck!

  • I don't think it sounds like you're "not feeding her enough" at all! Maybe try a pro-biotic? Something to help strengthen her gut? Is it related to anything she eats in particular or just a constant thing?

Hang in there, hope it ends soon!

  • Thank you @ohbaby+2013 I have tried gripe water before when she was younger. Maybe I should give it another try

  • @redgiant my DDs always had a lot of gas too, I recently tried switching to plain purées. But that's hard and she wants actual food. I get so much crap from people, because I won't feed her pizza, curly fries and just junk. For one that was never my plan to feed her that stuff and when she had a handful of goldfish and McDonald's chicken nuggets (we were out of town) she was up screaming for over an hour in pain that night. I'm still trying to feed her new foods but try to look it up and see if it could cause stomach pains/gas. Have you talked to your son's dr about it?

  • I must add, I just re read what I wrote. And my whole post didn't post, probably my phones fault. My mom just always has to say when my sisters and I were babies we ate everything and had apple juice starting at like 2months old. So my baby should do the same with no issue 8-| @arichison08 I haven't been able to pinpoint exactly what it is, sometimes it's worse than others. The only thing I can think is lactose intolerant possibly...dairy is in so much. Where do you get the pro biotic? Does it have to come from her dr?

  • @loreeann86 my mom and mother in law crack me up talking about what they did...I definitely don't follow their example! As for probiotics I talked to a few moms that just buy them at the drug or grocery store and some order online. I want to get one for DD but I haven't gotten around to researching them. I'll let you know if I find a good one :)

  • @arichison08 I don't follow what she says either, it usually doesn't bother me, it's funny. But I'm tired of her telling me I'm causing her to be this way. And I've said I want her to have a healthier cake for her bday just in case...we have to make a 5hr road trip back home the next morning. But nobody understands why.

  • And again not everything posted ugh....If she didn't have these stomach/gas pains I wouldn't care if she pigged out on regular cake. And that would be awesome if you could share with me what you find out on the Probiotics @arichison08
