As a mom which gift would you prefer ?

A  $50 gift card for peapod grocery delivery or a $50 gift certificate to a mexican restaurant.  DH has been in charge of christmas shopping for everyone since I've been working and I gave him a list of what to get, but for one couple he veered off it and I'm to kill him.  They are due to have twins in less than a month so I said to get them the $50 gift card for the grocery delivery service and he went and got them a $50 gift certificate to a mexican restaurant instead....grr!

Re: As a mom which gift would you prefer ?

  • Personally the restaurant.

  • Grocery delivery as a new mom, we haven't been out to dinner more than once (for our anniversary) since DD was born.
  • I think either would be good, but for a mom of twins, the grocery delivery would've been more useful.  It'll be a long time before she's venturing to the grocery store with the two of them by herself.  Is it possible to offer to babysit so they can go to the restaurant sometime?  If they have a lot of family nearby, don't worry about it.  I'm sure they'll like it.
  • Restaurant with an offer for babysitting when we decide to use it. :)
  • Restaurant as long as it's good for carryout too.

And for all those people who say "it will be a long time before the mom goes to the store" - are her husband's legs broken?

  • The restaurant, although the grocery delivery was a nice idea too.

  • Definitely the grocery delivery.  Getting take out is about the only way we eat out... I couldn't imagine taking twins to a restaurant.

  • He should add a free night of baby sitting to that restaurant gift certificate. Then you can guarantee it will be put to good use. The grocery delivery service is more of a family gift. So, even though I would like it. The restaurant sounds more personal. Cheers for your DH.

    Ha ha, I love this!

  • The grocery delivery, especially for a new parent of twins.  The restaurant gc is nice too though - you could offer to babysit or they can use it for carryout.  Don't be too mad at your DH.

Also, is her husband incapable of taking care of the twins himself?  I've done the grocery shopping every week since DS was 3 weeks old.  I loved getting out without him, even if it was just to pick up groceries.

  • What is their cash situation like? If it's really tight, the groceries. If it's not, the restaurant.

  • I personally would have preferred the grocery delivery, but it's because DD didn't sleep for the first 7 months of her life, so we've only gone to a restaurant once since she was born.

  • Peapod--I've used them and really like them.

  • They can use the gift certificate for take out, but they may have to reheat the food because its about a 15 minute drive.  We could offer to babysit too so they could go.  I'm not fun when it comes to gifts - my MO is giving not the funnest gifts, but more practical gifts.

Ditto this.  I think it's a perfect gift for new parents

  • While I'm sure going out on a date would be nice (eventually), realistically she would probably have more use for the groceries early on.  And what a bonus to not have to go shopping for them!

  • I would much rather prefer the restaurant, and the offer of babysitting, like pp said! It's perfect for a date night throw in a couple of movie passes and they're in heaven!!

  • Well I think either one is a great idea.  They could always use the gift card for the restaurant before the twins arrive maybe.  Kind of like a final date night ?!  Or I do like the idea of the free babysitting offer with the restaurant, because we all know that getting out of the house especially in those first few months is a god send.

    I agree.

  • Both are good ideas. I think the grocery delivery would be better, especially if they live somewhere where the weather gets yucky.
