My BIL is considering getting a Masters in Accounting from U of P online-- but I seem to recall some "not so positive" feedback regarding perception/costs, etc....
Anyone know anything about them? Thoughts/opinions/facts?
I would highly encourage him to explore all his options if he hasn't already. Univ of Phoenix gets a bad rep because they are a for-profit instituation, where most colleges/universities are non-profit. He wants to be sure that the program he is considering is fully accredited in the area he is studying. Also, I know that the reputation of the school, can affect him negatively in hiring decisions.
I say all this as someone who works in higher ed, but has no direct experience with Univ of Phoenix beyond what I've heard. So take it with a grain of salt.
There are so many schools with accredited online programs, I would ask DH to look into a bunch of different programs.
I did my MBA part online part in class from the University of Baltimore. It was close enough that I could get to some of the classes but I didn't have to overload and could take some online. And in my online classes, there were a lot of people in the armed forces, so there were people in Germany and Japan and all over the US.
And I know the University of Maryland, University College has online classes too. A lot of colleges are doing it now.

They are accredited, but like some others have said, they do seem to have a bit of a bad reputation. They are for-profit and I know I have heard some not so great things about them (I work in the industry but not directly with UOP) and I think some employers might see them as sort of a "lesser" school. Like a pp said, I would have him look into some online programs of other schools. Anymore, just about all major colleges and universities have some sort of an online program, whether its entirely online or has some on-campus requirements. The great thing about getting a degree through an online program of a more traditional school is that my understanding is nowhere on your resume or on your degree does it have to say that the program was online, so its not throwing up any red flags to employers that might be more hesitant to hire a grad of an online program.
