Just curious to see if anyone has dealt with this? Lucas turned one on the 8th, and at his 1 year appointment our ped said he could possibly had a hernia so referred us to CHOP; we have an appointment tomorrow. To my understanding, unlike umbilical hernias, all inguinal hernias have to be corrected by surgery. Does anyone have any experiences with this repair, or putting your baby (or maybe I should say toddler now lol) under general anesthesia? Thanks so much!
Re: Inguinal Hernia
My husband and his brother had bilateral inguinal hernias discovered shortly after birth. They both had them repaired at 6 weeks without any complications (and this was 30+ years ago so I imagine techniques are a little better now).
I hope your little guy doesn't really have a hernia and they're just sending you out of an abundance of caution. We've met with a pediatric surgeon about my daughter's umbilical hernia. Our pedi sent us just to be very sure it wasn't something else (hers sits high on the belly button so we needed to make sure it wasn't epigastric).
edited for spelling!
