One & Done: Only child

UO Thursday

Let's hear em'!

Mine thanks to a discussion on parenting. I have no qualms whatsoever with e-cigarettes. I actually like the vapor only ones (no nicotine/tobacco). This said, I do think that it should be something done on your own time not in front of children.

  • Homeschooling I can get behind, although it's NOT for me.
    I have a hard time with un-schooling.

    And football sucks.

  • I think it's stupid to just follow everyone's opinion on something. Speak your own mind and do what you want!!
  • i cant stand unschooling i think you are putting you child at a huge disadvantage and doing them a huge disservice

All sports suck. Im so glad DH only asks to watch the Super bowl. I can only do once a year with that nonsense on my tv. Lolol
Ha, you wouldn't like my house.  My DH is a huge sports buff, but I'm 100% OK with it.  The only thing that is ever on our TV is sports and ESPN.  I'm pretty anti-TV and we haven't introduced DS to kids shows, but having sports on in the background is pretty harmless.  DS is already really getting into sports and I like that he shows such an interest in football, basketball, golf, etc.

Just curious, does anyone know a mom who does un-schooling IRL?

Yeah.. DH really only likes NASCAR & is pretty much only interested in who won & watching Daytona. Other sports he's just interested in scores. Im glad he's not a major sports fan, I wouldn't be able to handle that but I knew this early on so we were obvs a good match. Haha
Ok, so here is my UO.  I hate NASCAR.  I just don't get how people find it interesting to watch.  I'm so glad my DH agrees with me!

No, I don't.  But none of my friends would dream of being that nutty, so there's that.
Just from what I see on TV and stuff.

As much as I don't agree with un-schooling, I think it would be interesting to watch/know a family that does it.  I'm not a big TV watcher... is there a show with an un-schooling family?

It pissed me off that the kids can't read, honestly... and one was older than my daughter (who reads chapter books).  But he could tell you what the plants were outside.  It was interesting, but very frustrating.  The kids seemed very "behind" to me, from where they should be.  With basic things.   It was a show on TLC, I think.  But no, it's not a series or anything. It was a one time show.

  • I'm also not a big fan of watching sports on TV.  I find it so boring.  My H watches baseball and curling but neither with any real regularity so it's not too bad.

My UO - I don't think it's a terrible thing to have a meal in front of the TV every once in a while.  We've even done it with our 19-month old a handful of times.

We really watch no sports. Just the Olympics! Neither of us are into it.

And it's not terrible to me, either. We kinda do it daily :P

We definitely did it daily before LO came and when he was too little to eat with us!  I love my H but I guess we just don't have enough to talk about to not have some sort of entertainment while we eat at least a few times a week.  Lol.

Its okay to homeschool your kids. Its okay to share a FB with your H.

It's definitely OK to do these things. The FB thing, though.... can someone explain to me WHY? I never understood this phenomenon. Why would you not want your own account?
PERSONALLY (b/c i am not @ohbenji LOL) DH and i only use it to communicate to long distance relatives. And DH is NEVER on it.

I guess people use it for very different things. I have lots of FB groups I'm involved in, which DH could not GAF about. And we both have different circles of friends. Don't get me wrong, lots of the friends overlap, but there are people on his friends list I don't know, and vice versa.
We only have family on our account. And i am not in any groups. So there is that!

Yup this.  I'm not against couples sharing FB's, it's just not for me.  I do have one friend who does it, but she's the only I've ever seen.  DH and I have mutual friends, but I have about 200 that we don't share at all.. because they're from high school, college, etc.  And DH is from Holland- he has a total different set of friends there.  And they speak Dutch and crap.  And I'd be like "WTF are you saying to me?" if we had the same.
Plus I'm in a few groups (mostly mom related) and I just want things separate.  I'm a big FB user, though.

  • H and I both use our FB A LOT.  My BF and I use FB messenger to chat all day, every day.  About mundane stuff like what we had for lunch or what TV shows we watched to big stuff like fights with our SOs and stresses and such.  Not stuff I want to share with someone.  I guess if you're doing it strictly to stay in touch with family and share pictures and such with them, it'd be ok to share but it would never be something I did.

I agree, we all use things differently.  It's none of my business :)
Although I think if two people are super active, it's probably harder.   DH is a "photographer" in his spare time, and I take a ton of pics too.  He posts pics from some shoots, and I posts "daily photos a day" (I join in on fat mum slims photo a day, she posts a theme and you take pic/post it daily- just a way to take a picture every day).. our friends would be so confused!   But like I said, I'm very active on FB (him too).  We each have groups, different friends, and do totally different things using it.

I don't care for wine, beer or tea either.  I can handle tea if I must.
But COFFEE? That's a major food group, yo.

  • My folks share both their gmail and their FB. They only use FB to see updates and, especially, photos from mutual friends and family. Neither one of them has ever actually posted, although one or the other checks it pretty much every day. They're very tech savvy but barely care enough about social networking to maintain one account, let alone two.
