Like Boston said, everything except underwear. 90% of mine and ds's clothes are from Savers or consignment. I find amazing deals and never get upset if ds stains something since most pieces are only a few dollars.

That's pretty much all my LO wears. Granted, most of it is hand-me-downs from my nephew so I know who wore it last. I do shop some second-hand stores when we're in bigger cities (there are none of any real quality near me) and would shop them more plus FB groups and such if we weren't so fortunate to have all the hand-me-downs. He probably has only a couple of shirts and PJs that I've actually bought him (for specific occasions) and I can't remember the last time I bought him pants.
He outgrows clothing so quickly that I have a hard time spending a lot of money on them. Plus, we (most likely) won't be having another child so we won't have anyone to hand clothes down to. I get them second-hand and then turn around and donate them to second-hand stores when we're finished with them.
I am likely the odd ball but I won't personally do it (doesn't bother me that others do tho). I just think of how many throw-ups and blow-outs DD has had in her clothes and I just can't.
You just keep buying new clothes. This way I can get good deals!!
I always wash and check for stains/tears ect. A lot of times i have bought things with the tags still on them!
I take mine and my husband's old clothes and cut them up and sew them into baby clothes. They always look brand spanking new and completely free! I love it. You guys should learn to sew- I learned while I was pregnant
I am going to a children's re-sale clothing store this weekend. What are your thoughts on used clothing?
Calvin gets most of his clothes from the Goodwill. He has a pretty awesome wardrobe - there are some great finds to be had at Seattle thrift stores. Lots of Janie and Jack, Baby Gap, Old Navy, Ralph Lauren, etc etc etc.
You may have the cutest siggy i have ever seen on the bump. LOVE IT!!

Lets see curtains = yes, pillows = yes, clothes = O HELL NO! lol
Edit: This is in-regards to my sewing capabilities.
I actually wish DD had gotten any hand me downs. We only started getting them right around her 1st birthday. I won't shop at the consignment shop near me, but only because I went in to inquire about selling my baby gear & the owner told me she gets a 70% cut. Umm...what?? That's ludicrous!
Wow that's crazy! You should just sell it yourself.
I would say 60% of DS wardrobe is second hand from friends, 30% brought from resale shops, and 10% new in the form of gifts from grandparents. I'm pretty sure the only new clothes I bought him was his coming home outfit for the hospital. Even most of his cloth diapers were gently used. I haven't bought myself clothes forever. When I do, I have something specific in mind so usually buy new. I wear hospital issued scrubs at work, so that helps the clothing budget. DH refuses to wear second hand.

I've got a brand new sewing machine still in the box. This is such a great idea. But we're pretty much stocked through at least the first year. I have a few older friends with boys who all unloaded on me. I've bought H less than 10 items of clothing and those were things I wanted specifically for pictures/special occasions. I looooove hand me downs! And thrifting too.

I felt this way for the young sizes, too. Once we hit 2t, I've had less of an issue but I still only buy gently used name brands and even then, it's only for daycare. Yeah, I'm kind of a snob about clothes. Shoes I'd never buy used because kids all walk slightly differently and the wearing from other people wearing them can be weird on their feet. My son has more clothes and shoes than most adults and I don't care if he wears something once and outgrows it. Having one means I can do it!
I'm for hand me downs from friends, but that's my limit. BUT, that's because our shops here for used clothing SUCKS! I went to a Once Upon a Child once somewhere and LOVED it. If we had one, I would use it and buy more used. But, we really only have a Goodwill here. And it sucks. Pretty bad. It's kinda gross inside, and most of the stuff is the same. Stains, holes, etc. So we don't really have a place where I can get any. But, I have taken from friends and their kids.
I would say that 75% of DD's wardrobe I have gotten at second hand shops. I am going to try to get away with buying her clothes this way for as long as possible!

I should add that the main reason that I buy so much and mostly new is because with relatively little effort, you can get things super cheap at places like Gymboree, Janie and Jack and the Gap. With coupons, rewards and sales, the most I usually pay per item at Gymboree and the Gap is around $4. The most I paid for anything this year was $12 for a winter coat. Janie and Jack sales can get pretty good and, although rare, they also run coupons in Parents magazine on occasion. At prices like that, it's kind of silly to buy used when it's around the same price. I resell at mom to mom sales and usually recoup over 50% of what I paid, which is a great return on clothes.
It can depend a lot on your town. Especially for those of us in smaller rural areas. At our one (non-thrift) consignment store, I get his shirts for $1.50 and pants for $2. We don't have any chain stores besides Old Navy and their sales are rarely that good if you don't want a credit card.
I couldn't care less what other people spend their money on. Heck, LO also has a ton of stuff bought new from Tea Collection and Boden, which is $$. But calling the rest of us silly for our own choices?
Totally for it! Ds gets 90% of his clothes from my nephew ...and we have a great baby consignment store in my town.

Was that In response to what I said? Because I certainly wasn't calling anyone's choices silly. I just meant it was silly for me to go hunting for used clothes when I can buy new ones a lot easier, with a better selection (most of the time online) for almost the same prices. Other than mom to mom sales, which are more seasonal, consignment in my area isn't that cheap and the stores themselves are few and far between. If I had great used choices in my area, I'd consider those, too if I was still getting good stuff at good prices.
I agree with the no undergarments rule. I am all for hand me downs as long as they are gently used. I hope this doesn't ruffle any feathers but my friend gave me a TON of clothes when my LO was first born, but they were so used, pilled, and faded that I couldn't bring myself to put LO in them. I ended up giving them all to Goodwill.
