Trying to Get Pregnant

Temping with MOTN nursing

(Side note: new username for safety reasons, but not new, have been here lurking for a while and posting for about the last month)

I just started temping this week because my cycles are so unpredictable since my first PP AF and I am just trying to establish some type of pattern, but  I am running into a problem.  DD wakes up anytime between 4am and 6am for her morning feeding.  I usually try and temp when she wakes up, but it can really vary and it seems the earlier I temp, the lower my temp is, and as a result they seem to be all over the place.  I tried temping at the same time (7am), but it seems like that will be affected by nursing earlier and being up and moving around, and therefore, not really accurate either.  I am sure there are several ladies who have dealt with this so I was just wondering how you address the problem.  Is it better to temp when I nurse regardless of the time or temp at the same exact time?

Overall, I feel its better to temp after you've had at least 3 hours of solid sleep, vs at the same time every day.  However, don't have experience with nursing...could you set an alarm at say 3 am to temp?  What do you mean your temps are all over the place?  Can you link your charts?
I could set an alarm to temp before LO wakes up for her feeding, that might work.  My temps are ranging between 97.77 and 97.53 without a real pattern to them.  BUT I have only been temping for a week, I was just under the impression that they should be around the same everyday and the chart makes it look like that is a big difference.  How do I link my chart?

  • I just temp with his 4-6 am wake up. My chart isn't always pretty but shows a shift. I take my temp before I get up to nurse. Some nights he gets up at 1 and has a party so for me setting an alarm at a certain time does nothing.
That is encouraging.  I haven't been temping long enough to see a shift, but maybe I will still be able to see it even if my temps are thrown off a bit by the MOTN wake ups.  I think I am about to start a new cycle so it will be easier for me to know what I am looking for maybe.

  • I temp at the same time each day, set alarm for 5:30am, because DS never (knock on wood) wakes before that time, and he usually will not wake after 3am (again, knock on wood). We bedshare and nurse occasionally during the night, and my charts look a bit crazy, but the shift at O is always obvious.

If LO wakes at or after 4 each morning, I'd set an alarm for 3:30am, temp and go back to sleep. :)

  • Here is a picture of my November chart. Not very pretty but at the end of the month they come together. We had the throw up flu this month as well :( so I temped later than normal.
Thank you so much! That is really helpful to see that you can still see the shift even if your temps are a little whacky.
