Fresh 48 Pictures

The girl who usually does our family pictures has a new type of session called the Fresh 48.  She comes out to the hospital after the baby is born and takes pics there.

Has anyone else heard of this?  Did anyone do it the first time around?  Would you do it for your next baby?

The photographer is a good friend from college so I have no qualms about her seeing us at the hospital, I don't know how I would feel about a photographer I don't really know.

Re: Fresh 48 Pictures

  • I think it's a neat concept. Especially if they do candid shots of the mom and the family with the baby.  I know some hospitals now have photographers that stop by but from what I've seen the photos aren't always that great or creative, and usually only of the baby.  DH brought his camera to the hospital but even then he was as sleep deprived as I was and taking pictures was not on his mind. We got pictures only because I remembered to ask right before we got discharged. Our first official family photo was taken in the OR, but I love the one we took on the hospital bed with both babies in our arms.  I looked and felt awful but good lighting, a pro camera, and a great photographer make a difference :)

I think if I already have a relationship with the photographer I would hire them for it.  Those first moments are really sweet and really easy to forget with the lack of sleep that follows.

  • Our hospital had a photographer that went around and took pics. Ours turned out pretty bad as K was a screaming mess at that time and I was a giant puffer fish. I do like the memories, but we paid a ridiculous amount of $$ for pics that I would die before I displayed anywhere in my home.
