Not one measly sit up?

I have a doctor's appointment next week, so I'll bring it up then, but who cannot do a single sit up? Before I was pregnant I could easily do 20 or more. Now I can barely get a few inches off the ground to do one sit up. I feel like a turtle on its shell. Anyone who can relate? Will I ever be able to do them again? I also had a c section, if that might explain it.

I tried to do one about a month again and was dumbfounded that I couldn't. I seriously was blown away. DH said it was because I wasn't using anything to support my feet so I tucked them under the edge of the couch and was able to do plenty. I think he was just trying to be nice. Before LO, I know that I could do lots of sit ups without any help from the couch. I had a c-section also.

  • I too had a C-section and part of my job requires me to do situps. Yes we have physical fitness tests. Anyway, situps are a challenge so I started with crunches and am building strength. One of the things I do is every hour I will do ten pushups and ten situps or crunches. This is helping me improve. I'm not sure what my doctor would say if I brought up doing situps were hard or near impossible?

  • I tried to do a plank the other day while playing on the floor with baby and was completely shocked at my lack of ability. I couldn't even lift my knees off the ground. Before pregnancy I attended boot camps and did plank challenges and could easily plank for 2 mins.  I couldn't even lift my knees up,  my tummy muscles were shaking so much. Goodness gracious it was discouraging.
  • I tried a plank the other day. I got about 10 seconds.

  • When I started planking, I could barely do 10 seconds. That was a couple months ago, now I can plank a whole minute! I just tried to do a sit up, while cheating and using the couch, and I was still like a turtle. I guess it's no big deal, but it is just so weird.
  • Well crap, now I have to go try to do a sit up and plank. . .  this sounds like it could be fun!

  • I can't. Some of it is bc if the cs, some from not doing any for months and i think sine is just all the stress and changes on those muscles from pregnancy.

Glad I'm not the only one thinking this! I tried a plank a couple months ago. I wasn't any good at it, but i hadnt ever done them prepregnancy so I have nothing to compare it too. I do know I used to be able to do a situp though!

  • I do abdominal exercises when I teach my dance classes and since having my c section only do about half what my class does and then do more of the plank related stuff but it definitely feels harder to activate my core and feel my abs since I had my baby

  • If you can't do one then there is a reason. Your abdominal muscles get really separated during pregnancy and take a long time to return. If you do too much ab work before they are healed you can permanently mess them up. Give it more time. gentle core exercise is much better for you than ab targeted workouts. This coming from a few nurses and physio people who specialize in post partum recovery.
