How often are you feeding?

LO is 5 days old and feeding just about every 2 hours. Is this normal? I know in the hospital it was every 3 hours. I feel like I'm not giving him enough. How often is your LO eating?

Re: How often are you feeding?

  • Completely normal and a great sign that LO is nursing so much. That will ensure you build up a good supply. Your supply is established in the first 6 weeks, and the more LO nurses the better. Your doing a great job momma! It may feel like all you do is nurse, but it is short lived. My LO started STTN around 4 months, going 10 hours without nursing....even though she had been nursing every 2 hours for the first few months.

  • Every 2 hours is perfectly normal. Remember your lo's stomach is really small (like the size of a walnut) they have to eat a lot because they don't have a lot of room in there.

In the beginning my lo ate every three hours and eventually moved to every two during the day and at 9 weeks we are still every 2 hrs.
  • I was feeding every 1.5-2hrs at that age. My 4.5mo old eats every 3h around the clock.

  • My 3 1/2 month old eats every 1.5-2 hours during the day. He does sleep a 6 hour stretch followed by a 4-5 hour stretch at night though.
