Adoption

Intro - we are fostering to adopt

Hi all. I thought I would introduce myself. My h and I have been married 8 years. I've had 3 miscarriages, and have been unable to conceive again since 2005. We started discussing adoption a few years ago. We've recently completed MAPP classes in our county and our first home study was Monday. We are working on setting up the room for a child, age 0-5. I am stuck on gender neutral linens for toddler - 5. I realize I am distracting myself from the process by focusing on decor. Silly I know. I look forward to getting to know you all and learn from your experiences.
I always wanted to be a mom, I just didn't know how I would get there.

Re: Intro - we are fostering to adopt

  • Welcome! We are finishing the last stages of out home study for fostering a similar age range (not necessarily to adopt). The gender neutral bedding is tough! I found a patchwork quilt set with nice colors at Target finally. It was "boys" but I thought it would be fine for either. I was close to finding someone to make a quilt because there weren't any gender neutral options for twin beds! I imagine there is probably a bigger selection online.

And so much is out of your control in this process that I think it's normal to get obsessed about the details.
***************************** Our beautiful daughter was born in October 2009. Turns out she was quite the miracle. After two years of TTC, diagnosed with DOR. A couple of failed treatment cycles later, we decided to let go of our hope for more biological children and explore adoption.

  • Welcome!

Mother of two wonderful boys! Blessed through adoption.

  • Welcome. I am doing foster to adopt 1-4 but for a boy since he will be sharing a room with my son. I just have some sheets and blankets and when we got a placement I am going to take them to pick out a bed in a bag type set. We are also in the last stages, waiting for our home study to be approved and then final inspection. Good luck!!

  • Welcome! I'm fairly new too, doing fost/adopt for girl 6-20. In my area it's 0-10 or 6-20. Just started the paperwork part of the homestudy process, and yet I still want to shop for a girl's room!

  • We are also doing foster/ foster to adopt for 0-4.  We're in the process of completing our paperwork and getting ready for our first home study.  It will be interesting to get to the point of setting up the room because my husband asked if we couldn't wait to to that until we got a placement.  I asked him if he didn't think we would have more pressing things to do at that point and he just looked at me with a bit of a blank stare.  Uh oh, this is going to get interesting really fast!
