F'n Ikea shelves!!!

I know I saw some other nurseries with the same shelves as me. I hate them!!!! They don't actually hold books very well and I have to shield LO's head from falling books when I reach for one.

Does anyone have these? Do you use them or are they just for looks? Have I tried to overfill them? Errrr

Re: F'n Ikea shelves!!!

  • We use those but I consider it more for decoration then practicality, they are not meant to hold books. I have not had any issues, but they are also not very full. Side nite: has anyone else noticed their board books warping from being on those shelves. I'm very sad a whole bunch of our board books are all warped.

  • You are right that they shouldn't be used as a practical shelf, but I totally am trying to and failing! Bookcase shopping in my future. I haven't noticed my books warping though.

  • Those look pretty full. I have them and if I over fill them things start falling off.

@araziza I noticed some of our board books are warped but how do you think is shelf doing it? I never thought of that. Just from being positioned tilted maybe?
  • We have those shelves in our living room for books and I hate them too. We put Ikea spice racks in LOs room for his book and those have worked very very well and have even survived our 3 year old niece pulling on them.
  • We have these and love them! But mine aren't as full as yours :) My husband put double stick foam tape (not too thick) on the back first and then mounted them on the wall and then used dry wall screws. They haven't budged. His company installs ginormous signs so maybe doing what he did with the tape will help.
  • Ben has those in his room and so far so good. We have four and honestly, I just keep the books on there that are interesting and relevant now. We have the same ones in my step son's room and we've always rotated books out as he gets bored with them or outgrows them. Definitely not meant for the avid book collector.
