waking at 515 every day!!! losing it...

any experience on how to 'make' a 2.5 year old sleep past at least 6 or 630? he goes down with no issue at 7 and rarely wakes int he night. we are hit or miss with naps. Most days he doesn't take one, but i can usually convince him with cuddles and a song to get him down.
but the mornings are killing us!!!
any suggestions?

we haven't tried the groclock yet - may need to invest in one! he won't just wake up and play because he won't get out of bed in the dark...

  • If you find a way, please share.  Mine likes to lull us into a false sense of security by sleeping in on a random Friday all the way to 6:40, but will be up bright and early Saturday morning at 5:30.

  • My DD doesn't usually fall asleep until 9:30 or 10 and wakes up around 7 or 7:30. She takes about an hour and 15 minute nap each day. Is it possible that is just all the sleep LO needs? Could you try putting DS down later? We got DD this clock:

    Yeah, this!

Mine was up at 5am today: "Mama, dit up. All done bed. Dit up."

He hasn't slept past 5:50am since September and is usually up 1-3 times in the night.

  • 2.5 year old are at the age where they start to need less sleep. I'd try putting him to bed a bit later by 15 min each night to see if you could shift his schedule gradually. Or, give him a flashlight so maybe he'll get out of bed and play by himself in the morning. Good luck!

We've always had an earlier riser but she's always had relatively early bedtime.  Up until this week it was 7pm and wakeup around 5:30 with a 1-2hr nap. She usually does 10-10.5hrs at night but has recently started to need a bit less.  We pushed her nap to 12:30 and bedtime to 7:30 and it seems to help push her wakeup to 6am. I know that is still early but we can't do super late on weekdays. I agree with PP that it may be time to shift the schedule a bit if the early is too early (unless you think overtired).

I'm keeping in mind that daylight savings is in March and it will be lighter later and earlier and that always messes things up for us temporarily.
