Let's talk crib mattresses

I did a quick search and we haven't talked about crib mattresses in a while. I remember seeing a discussion once where someone asked what to look for in a mattress but I already have an idea of what I want. I want the highest coil count I can find and I want it to be waterproof (which I think they all are anyway). I've been looking at BRU and Target online and the one I keep coming back to is the mattress we got for DS. It seems to be the very best option. Even some that have lower coil counts are more expensive than this one! I don't have a problem buying the same mattress but I want to make sure I'm getting the best one.

For some reason there are a lot of bad reviews, saying the bed is too soft, which I don't understand because, like I said, at 220 coils, I haven't found any that have a higher coil count (and I assume would be harder).

What have you ladies bought (or registered for or are thinking of buying)?

One side is softer for toddler, and the infant side is firmer. It got good reviews and was a good price, that was about the extent of how much thought we put into it.

it was firm, hate coils so it's foam, and reversible so I can use it longer.

as for high coil count, it would only make it more firm if the strength of each coil is the same. which it wouldn't be. a thin coil vs a thick one will change the firmness.

We got the Simmons Naturally Slumber Time Mattress from Target.
I believe it was around $100, but the reviews for it are great (it was also recommended in our Baby Bargains book). It has an infant and a toddler side, and the infant side seems very firm, which is what we wanted.

I did the good old middle choice. Meaning there were some ( at BRU) priced for 50 some at 100 and some at 180. I picked the 100. It's how I choose a lot of things in life

We got this one. I really wanted square corners so that it fit snugly in the crib, no gaps, waterproof and I didn't want coils. Ideally we wanted hospital corners (no pooling, closed seems) but had a hard time finding it in a decent price range with our other options. This arrived for us about a week or so ago and fit perfectly, nice and firm, no smell, not overly noisy like I imagined a waterproof mattress would be. It is also lightweight enough that I can easily get it out to change sheets, etc if need be.

This is the one we got too. It was actually included for free when we purchased our crib.

My sister really liked her Colgate foam mattress for her son, which gets high reviews from consumer reports. We decided on the foam sealy soybean mattress from BRU.

That is the one we got and I love it! With my first we just had a cheap one and she refused to sleep on that thing. So we got this one for number 2 and she slept great on it from day one. They will sleep on it for 2+ years and if you have more kids you will use it again. I think it is worth spending a little extra to get a good one. The good ones always re-sell great at our mom consignment sales if that is your style.

The buying guide did say that not simply the number of coils matter, but also the thickness of them. I believe the article recommended a minimum of 150 coils.

I had first chosen #1 (the Sealy Soybean Mattress) in the Top 5 list, but I got the alert yesterday on my Target registry that it's no longer available. So we went with #3, the Sealy Firm Rest Crib Mattress. We got the crib in this week so I wanted to pick up the mattress right away so I could start getting the crib ready (Target has it in-store). The mattress had great reviews on Amazon too!

We got a sealy/gentle vibrations is the name I think? With my son I was terrified he would have colic so EVERYTHING I bought was to be prepared. The mattress vibrates gentle then slowly stops after 15 minutes. I laugh now because we never used it.. not once. But its a nice mattress.

We are getting an organic foam waterproof mattress. Probably gimmicky re the organic part but I figure it can't hurt. We are also getting a separate waterproof mattress pad -in case of middle of the night messes we can pull that off and still have the mattress. Probably overkill but I'm a naive ftm.

We got the Safety First Peaceful Lullabies mattress but I'm kind of sad we didn't get the Heavenly Dreams one, because it's #2 on that list above and I had been considering it.
