Nap help

Any advice for nap training 10 month old twins? They share a room and do well putting themselves to sleep at night (although still not STTN). Naptime I rock them to sleep which takes forever. I'd love to put them down awake and have them put themselves to sleep, but they just cry and work each other up. Do I just keep doing 20 minute checks until they give up? Or move one into a different room? I'm so frustrated and exhausted by trying to get them down for naps.

Re: Nap help

  • I hit a nap wall around then. Try the sleep lady book, saved my life (though they still occasionally wake at night. I started just sitting in the room after I rocked them for a minute and just shushing and they did start to lie down better. Naps are totally cake now, I can just stick them in their cribs and they will just go to sleep (19 months, didn't take that long to get here). Good luck!

  • Getting naps established is so hard- I totally feel your pain! Especially with 2! But keep trying it will happen! My girls (now 18 months) have been napping in separate rooms since abt 10 months.  I always put them down at the same times everyday. When we were doing 2 naps it was 9:30 and 2:30. Now that we're on 1 nap they go down at 12 every day. I really stuck to the schedule and I think that helped. Some days 1 will take a short nap and the other will take a long. Sometimes they both take short/long. It totally varies, but they're good at putting themselves to sleep without much fussing at all. We have some quiet time and we read a story and then I just put them in their bed with their little sleepy kitty comfort item and a sound machine and it's naptime.  GL!

  • We also decided to separate the girls for their naps--one goes down in a PnP in my room. We try our best to be consistent & put them down at the same times every day. Also, I read them a book first, too--it gives them time to become resigned to their fate. We did have to do some training initially & there was 2 days of CIO, but that short term pain has lead to very easy & consistent nappers who know what to expect. I give them each a toy & tell them they don't have to sleep, they just have to have some quiet time--works every time, they can never resist putting their heads down, at least for a little bit...

    Good luck!
  • I've been in nap misery since about 4 months (6 months now). They are driving me crazy! I've tried separating, music, white noise, etc. but still working on it. I'm glad you posted this so I can see what others are doing!
  • It's when rocking to sleep started taking me forever that I did sleep train them using Ferber.  You could try separating or just do the sleep training.  It was a life saver for me even though my boys were putting them to sleep at night… it really helped with naps.
