Anyone else feel like the biggest couch potato?

DD is 11 days old and I feel like my life has been spent in this recliner for the past week and a half.
She is still wanting to be held all the time (pediatrician assures me this will pass...right???????) and so exhauasted that when DH is holding her I either just take a shower or eat. I'm not talking about running marathons or anything but I just feel lazy right now!!! Plus also at the stage where I am human pacifier so the thought of getting out of the house makes me anxious because one day she'll go 3 hours in between meals and others 45 minutes. I never know what I'm in for...
I love snuggling with my baby girl but after being off of a job where I was on my feet for 9 hours a day this is a change!!!

  • I feel ya! I wish I had some sort of schedule but there is none with a three week old.  I'm surprised when I see how late in the day it is and feel like all I do is feed her. I keep praying it gets better even by a little bit soon.

  • In the evenings I am glued to the recliner from 6-10 nursing.

  • I have lived on the couch since my 2nd trimester. It's better (or worse) now that my toddler is a toddler. I sit every single second I can.
  • Yes!! I've only been home since Friday afternoon, but I am trying hard to live by the "sleep when baby sleeps" rule so I'm not such a zombie. I'm hoping to go for a nice walk at the park with the help of DH this weekend, maybe that will make me feel better.

  • @sehudson821, a walk will make you feel so much better. It was warmer on Monday so I bundled up DD and we went for a walk around the neighborhood for like ten minutes. Did me a world of good to get fresh air and leave the house.

  • It was a huge adjustment for me with DS. I wasn't really prepared mentally for how much time you spend parked on the couch especially nursing! You could try a moby type wrap, that may buy you some mobility.

  • I lasted 5 days at home and today we went grocery shopping. It was a pretty quick trip with a set list so we could get in and out and back home in time for feeding but it was so nice to just get out and do something! I think I was more nervous about my other 2 because they can be terrible in the store, but DS walked outside the cart (he used to sit in the big part) and dd managed to sit in the front the whole time. Success!!

  • I found it really hard with DS but since this is my last baby I'm trying to enjoy it. I've been getting out of the house once a day to take or pick up DS from school. If it warms up I'm going to try to take a little walk each day. I try to be really lazy all day and get moving a little bit when DS is home bc I want to spend time with him.

  • It will get better guys I promise.  The first few weeks really are just about resting - birth is tough on both baby and mom.  Let your bodies recover a bit.  If you are feeling good and want to get moving, I HIGHLY suggest looking into baby wearing - there are tons of options out there and you can even breastfeed in a lot of the carriers on the market so if you are out and about and baby is hungry its not a problem.  (this does take some practice of course so I would suggest wearing baby at home too to get the hang of things).  Baby is used to being connected to you and being apart is scary.  One day though things will be the opposite and you will miss the baby snuggles.

  • I have only left the house for a bit fora pediatrician appointment and to get baby supplies. I didn't even walk outside of my house yesterday.
