babies heart rate

I am team green and this is about the point where I start second guessing my gut feeling. I just know DS was a boy until about 35 weeks and then I starting thinking maybe its a girl. I turned out to be right and he was boy. I have thought this entire pregnancy that I was having a girl but then on Monday after hearing the heart rate, I started to doubt myself. So I am wondering those that know the gender, what is it and what does the heart rate tend to be? I know it is just an old wives tale but I thought it would be fun to see. My LO heart rate has ususally been high 140's low 150's. This week it was high 130's. Just wondering...

  • I had a NST yesterday and her HB was all over the place. It would go from the 130's to the 160's, so I'm going to say it's probably not accurate to make a guess on the gender based on that.

Your NST sounds normal, btw! They're supposed to be all over the place.

  • My doctor gave me a visual of how much heart rate didn't matter: at our anatomy scan, he measured the heart rate and then said, "let me show you why this doesn't mean girl or boy." He then took the ultrasound wand thingy (very scientific of me) and shook it all over my belly, making baby squirm about. Baby's HR went up and went from a "boy" HR to a "girl" HR.

  • If you don't want to find out what's the point in speculating? I am asking in all honesty and not snark. I mean I would think people want to stay team green because they want to wait until baby is born but if you start speculating using signs like heart beat ( valid or not) it defeats the whole purpose of staying team green. Just my opinion to let it be and not speculate- the wait is not too long anyways :-)
  • 140-170 and we're expecting a boy.

Thank you for the reassurance! It was my first one and a little scary.
  • 3 girls, all different heart rate ranges. My first 160s, second 140s, this one 130s. Unless the doc plays Michael Jackson. She gets all excited and it goes up to 150s. Smart girl.
  • I know it doesn't mean anything, but an old wives tale is that above 140 its a girl, below its a boy. So i was just wondering if this was true for people. Thats all...

For the most part, old wives tales are true 50% of the time.

  • Multiply your baby's heart rate by the date of conception (add the month and day together, leave out the year) and then divide that number by the number of orgasms you had in the week leading up to conception.

If the number is even, it's a girl.

If the number is odd, it's a boy.

    But math is hard.

Ah thank you! Just did this and it confirms my AS that I'm having a boy! ;)

  • I feel like we're back at 16 weeks with this post. FWIW, I'm having a girl and her hb is between 130 and 148 now.

I know! I actually looked at the date of the post because I thought perhaps it somehow got bumped by a random troll or something.

I'm going to ditto Hg. If you've decided to wait/see until LO is born, I don't get the "point" in polling about OWT to see if you can guess what you are having. Or is that part of the fun of not knowing? I don't like surprises/guessing games so....maybe that's why I don't get it?

  • I also agree that heartrate obviously has nothing to do with gender, but for your reference-- I have weekly NSTs and my boy's base heart rate is in the 150s. When he is active it is in the 180s.
