Sleep accommodations while travelling

We'll be travelling out of town the last weekend of February and I'm not sure what we'll use for our then 20 month old to sleep in/on.  He sleeps in his crib happily, putting himself to sleep at night and rocked to sleep for naps.  We do have a PnP but it seems a little cramped for him now and he's a mover when he sleeps.  I've looked into inflatable beds but I'm not sure how that would work with him being put to bed awake.  The hotel we are staying at does not have cribs, only PnPs.

Any suggestions/experience with this?  Thanks!

  • ETA:  He'll be 21 months old by then.

  • Yeah, I guess DS still naps in a PnP three times a week at the sitter's so maybe I'm overthinking this. Lol.
  • when we were out of town our twins (who also are movers when they sleep in their cribs) slept in separate pnps.  they did just fine.  and i'm sure your lo will to...esp since he's used to it!
  • Ok, we'll just go with the PnP :)  I KNOW it'll be fine but I still worry we'll get there and none of us will sleep at night.  Haha.

    Thanks for your input!
  • They do make actual mattresses for PNP if you're worried about it being hard.
  • We cosleep on vacation. It's just easier. DD hates PnPs.
This is an option as well though I still worry about the getting to sleep part.  Do you just go to bed at the same time as LO?

I think we'll just go with the PnP and I'll try not to worry.  We don't travel much and he hasn't spent a full night in the PnP since we was a little baby but I'm sure he'll be fine.

    Thanks again everyone!
  • sounds like you're going with a PnP, but just FYI there are several baby supply rental companies all over the country where you can rent a crib (or anything else you could think of) for pretty cheap. we love Babies Away.

  • I guess my concern with co-sleeping is that he usually takes a long time to fall asleep and he'll move around and play and look at his book and stand up and bounce and do all sorts of things before he actually lays down to go to sleep.  With a regular bed, I just don't see him staying in it.

Thanks again for all of the suggestions!  We'll stick with the PnP since it'll contain him as he winds down.  Then, if he has issues through the night, we can look at co-sleeping.
  • Do you have the option of putting your LO in another room? If my DS can see me, he's not going to sleep. We booked a suite for our vacation this summer, but if staying in a regular hotel room, I'd consider putting him close to the bathroom or out of the line of vision.

With my kids they always start off in the PnP and then wake up in the middle of the night sometime and move to my bed.  So it's a mixture of both.  But I always start off with PnP.  Good luck!
  • Just put the kids in the bed early and then co-sleep.

We rented a suite so that we could put him in a separate room.  DS is the same in that he won't sleep if he sees us and it'll be nice to not have to worry about the noise we make after he's in bed.
  • Most hotels just have pack and plays.  If that is not going to work, he could sleep on the floor or in bed with you.  Some hotels might have cots or something that you could add in.  Your LO could roll out of bed, but at least it would be lower to the ground.

DD sleeps with us in the hotel.  It's the easiest option.
