Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Similac Sensitive question

We just switched to similac sensitive last night and when shaken it's ridiculously foamy I let it sit for a while but it doesn't seem to get better I even stired but not all the bubbles go away

just wondering what you guys do to get rid of the foam..

Re: Similac Sensitive question

  • You don't.  It pretty much settles at the opposite end and is left when the baby is done.  If it liquifies again, I give him the rest of the bottle, but it's really a small amount.  Ironic that it's for gassy/fussy babies and yet, it's so foamy, right!?!? It has worked wonders for my son.  I saw a definite difference within 24 hours of switching!

  • Yea I was just curious cause when he's done with 2 ounces there's 2 ounces of milk & 2 ounces of foam lol I know! For gas & it's full of air lol! I hope it works he almost never burps no matter what position we burp him & drops don't work & he complains in his sleep about the gas so it was worth a try. So far 4 feedings in still won't burp every meal but seems content & no bloated tummy
  • Swirl it instead of shake ... Much less foam
  • We use the gas drops...drop it right in the bottle after you mix it and it will get rid of the foam.

  • Same as sarahdugger, a dose of gas drops and an little swirl takes care of the foam. FWIW I use generic similac sensitive (slightly different ingredients and makeup than name brand) and its less foamy, but DS is gassier on it so I still use gas drops. The foam didn't seem to be much of an issue for my son.

  • Use warm water & stir.

  • I had same issue.  Hope you're little one does better!  We had to switch to alimentum because of the gas and his reflux

I'm going to butt in here since my son was on Alimentum for several months. It worked like a charm. We tried a bunch of different formulas first, but he still had such painful gas. There are a few more options out there now than there were when DS was that young, and I would try those first, because Alimentum is very expensive. It's also smelly and hard to wash out of the bottle nipples. But if that's truly the only thing that works for your baby, definitely use it. And if your child has a true milk allergy, which is what the Alimentum is intended for, your insurance may cover the cost.
