Hey ladies. I searched and couldn't find anywhere. Does anyone know the guidelines of how much breast milk from a bottle your newborn should eat week by week?
My 5-pound peanut gets 50 ml (just under 2 ounces) 8 times a day, as per the neonatologists' orders. At first we had to wake him to feed him, now he often cries for his food right on time.
A bigger newborn would need 2-3 ounces 8 times a day.
My LO (born 5#11, currently about 7#5) will be 4 weeks tomorrow. His nighttime bottles are still at 2oz. We tried more but he just spit up a ton. So I have 2 oz bottles ready and then bottles with 1oz in them incase he's still hungry after the 2. I spent a day or two last week all freaked out trying to figure out how much milk he's getting from me and how much he should have in a bottle and wondering why he isn't taking 3 oz, and then I just relaxed.
I read something last week that someone said. After giving all kinds of advice they said " the best thing to do is stop reading all of this and just feed your baby. "
This is the conclusion I came to. Baby is growing/gaining, and diapers look good. I had to stop worrying about him being on target with all the other babies and just "feed my baby".
I've kind of gone off topic here, but I hope I was a little helpful! Just relax momma- you'll figure out what works best for you and your baby!
You could also do some weighted feeds (with a LC on a very accurate scale) to see how much baby is eating, and use that. That is what we will probably do.
Also, you can research paced bottle feeding to prevent over feeding.

Post this in the first thread on this board and AmyG will help you. But PP are right, it's easy to over feed by bottle so get the chart from kellymom.com while you wait for AmyG to reply.
We do about 24 oz per 24 hours. Generally for us that's 3 oz bottles every 3 hours, but sometimes he's hungry early and we give 1-1.5 and see if he needs more. He tends to tank up on milk before he does a longer sleep. When giving large bottle we take frequent breaks to give him time to get to a full feeling.
I started with 1.5oz every 3 hours and he's up to 2oz every 2.5hrs or so. The only problem is that I'm trying to keep a bunch of bottles stored in the fridge but I can't keep up. Earlier, I pumped for about 20-25min and was only able to get out 1/2oz because I had already pumped 2oz right before. How can I produce more milk?
