Tdap aftermath or flu?

I had my tdap yesterday at my weekly check up. Obviously a little sore last night in the arm but felt fine other than that. Today I woke up feeling achy all over joints and have chills. I went to work and just got more achy so left to go lay down the rest of day. If I feel the same tomorrow i am going to call my doctor. Just wondering if anyone has has flu like symptoms after their tdap or if the flu bug is really coming. Any suggestings other than Tylenol for the aches? I've only taken 2 today, but they don't seem to do too much.

Re: Tdap aftermath or flu?

  • I only had a sore arm. Same with DH. Hope you feel better soon and that it isn't the flu!

  • The tdap vaccine cannot make you sick. Sore arms yes due to the needle but it's technically dead virus so would not bring out flu like symptoms. I assume this is not your first tdap ever so if you do have allergy you would have known. You probably got the booster. If you think it's the flu I suggest you get checked and confirm with your dr. as this late in the pregnancy it could get really serious.
  • I got mine yesterday too. I immediately got a headache that didn't go away until mid morning today. Other than that I just have a sore arm.

  • Just a sore arm here. Sounds like you've just happened to get sick at the same time as your tdap. If you have enough flu-like symptoms, you may want to get tested for it. Or it could be a cold, or anything else really.
But the tdap vaccine can't give you he flu- they're completely unrelated.

  • My arm was sore for almost a week. I hope it's not the flu and that you feel better soon. And no suggestions except maybe a warm bath?

  • While it's not possible the get THE flu from Tdap, I don't think it's an unreasonable notion that it's making you feel yucky. Any vaccine illicits an immune response. Same idea as why your LO won't feel 100% after his vaccines.
Call your Dr if you are concerned, but like pp said, you should feel better soon.
  • I got mine yesterday at my weekly checkup too. I just have a sore arm. I would call or go in and do the flu swab. If you do have the flu you need to be treated asap!!!
