stop trying to plan around the state of my cervix!

My sister wants to come for the birth of the LO. For some reason, she and my mother seem to think that how far dilated I am is a good indicator of when my sister should head this way. (She lives 600 miles away)

My sister even went as far as to ask me to change my appt from tomorrow to today since I was having irregular contractions last night. Um.. they wont change it just bc I had contractions.. its pretty normal for almost 38 wks

My mom wont call the dr. Until tomorrow for herself.. you know.. just in case.

im sorry to inform you family but the condition of my cervix really isnt a good indicator of when you should start your journey or make appts

  • I get it's annoying but be thankful that you have family that want to be there for you.

  • Oh I absolutely am. Dont get me wrong. I love them to pieces.

But live your life till its time. For my sister, ive told her to head this way since it could be any time but warned her she could be here 3 weeks before its show time.

There is no perfect timing on it.

  • Your mom is planning to call your doctor? Did I read that right?

Nono! Sorry! She needs to call and make an appt with HER dr but wont do it until after my dr. Appt. Tomorrow.

  • Well you know.. that's how you can tell your close by how dialated you are. *insert loving sarcasm*

Every since my Christmas scare every time Igo to the dr I get asked.. how dialated are you!?

I told my sister to google dialation this am and how its not a good indicator. Its all I got right now.

You could just say you're not being checked. Or that you won't discuss the state of your cervix with anyone. Just refuse.

  • My parents live 12 hours away, my sister lives 16 hours away. They don't ask the 'invasive' questions-but since my cerclage came out on Monday, I get a couple texts a day asking if the baby's here yet... After I've told them MH will let them know when I'm in labor and when we head to the hospital. They will be scrambling for last minute arrangements, but that isn't my problem!

  • I know she means well, but MIL has been asking for months if "it still looks like you're on track for your due date."  I mean, I guess.  I am measuring roughly on target and haven't had any complications, but I'm only 33 weeks so they aren't exactly checking on things.  DD was measuring on track too and was 9 days early, so it's a pretty ridiculous question, IMO.

  • I can totally get this.  My mom keeps asking if I have a firmer date.  I keep reminding her I'll only have an exact date IF there is a PROBLEM.  Other than that just plan for ANYTIME in Feb.  I finally convinced her to just book her flight for 1 week after my due date.

I completely get this! My mam has pretty much taken the entire of Feb off in case baby comes early or late... I'm due on the 12th, but even so it could still be a January baby.

I think it's lovely that she wants to be there to meet her first grandchild, but can't help thinking this is a total waste of a month of leave ... Ah well - there are worse things to complain about I suppose...
