When was your nursery done?

DH and I have been slacking on working on the nursery. It was our office - and we have a lot of stuff in there and TBH are not sure where everything is going to go from that room (we only have 3). We're trying to make a game plan this week with getting it ready (and calling in the troops: family and friends to help). I'm 23 weeks now. It's a pretty small room so it can get done quickly, but really need to get a move on. Ideally I'd like to have it mostly odne by 28 weeks, but I'm curious when you all had your nursery's complete.

Re: When was your nursery done?

  • Well our house wasn't even ready until the day the boys were born and then it was still two weeks before we had power and could move in. So our nursery was ready when they were about three weeks old. :). Maybe this makes you feel better and like less of a slacker. Lol.

  • Ours isn't done either and the babies are 3 weeks old (granted, they are in the NICU). I wasn't that concerned as I think we'll keep them in our room at first. We only have one extra bedroom and still need it as a guest room for our parents who will be staying to help.

  • I don't think my twins are going to officially HAVE a nursery.  I like to keep babies in my and DH's room until 5-6 months, and the other two bedrooms for the house are being used as DD and DS's bedroom and playroom.  It doesn't seem to make sense to designate one of those rooms as the nursery when it won't be used for a while.  I am not quite sure how I am going to work things out, so I am trying to creatively brainstorm.  I must say, I am a bit disappointed to not have the incentive to plan a cute nursery again...

  • I was 28 weeks. I was put on bed rest at 31 weeks so I was happy that I got it done.
  • There are still some decorative touches I'd like to add that I haven't yet....and my twins are a year old! But, as far as cribs set up, clothes organized, etc. etc.....I think somewhere between 30 and 32 weeks it was done (my goal was 28 weeks, but I never meet the deadlines I set for myself). Ours was an office first too and the desks all got moved out shortly after my shower (25 weeks).  Honestly, the sooner you can get stuff done the better....even if everything goes smoothly with the pregnancy, it'll amaze you how quickly you run out of energy toward the end.

Slacker here...:).. My twins are 5 months and their nursery has only been done for about 2 of the 5. I was on bed rest from 23 weeks until they were born at 31 weeks and they were in the NICU.... They are still in our bedroom though...

  • I think ours was more or less finished by 28 weeks, but it took our furniture a while longer to arrive (dresser and glider). I was always stressed it wouldn't be ready in time, but honestly, our babies never even saw it until they were a couple of months old. They slept in our room and we dragged the changing table in there also :)
  • My goal is to be done by 28 weeks. Right now we have the cribs set up in one of their rooms and the other room is a complete disaster. We also plan on keeping the girls with us in our room for ~6 months.

  • I wanted everything done by 26 weeks and we accomplished that. We still don't have a few basics like crib sheets and a humidifier but my shower is soon so I hope I'll get some basics from that but we are basically ready to bring the babies home.

  • I remember sitting in the recliner in the nursery one night after failed induction attempt #1 while DH hung the birch tree decals on the wall behind the twins' cribs. We had the "major" items in place when I was around 32 (ish) weeks along, but the last minute details waited until around 37 weeks! We have an older DS, so it was a lot harder getting the twins' room finished than nursery #1.

  • I wasn't finished until after I was sent to the hospital for monitoring. My awesome SIL and MIL finished it while I was away. Most of it was done about three weeks before they were born.
  • 36 weeks and I was close to murdering my husband for taking so long to clear it out of his crap.

  • Mine are 9 weeks and it's still not done. The bumper is still in the package setting inside one I the cribs, and the cloud wall decals still aren't up on the dark grey wall, the shelves and photo frames still aren't up. But we gutted the room completely and laid in new carpet so DH had to finish it while I was on hospital bed rest..... And by finishing it I guess I said play video games instead lol forgive my panoramic photo skills it looks severely distorted :/ and today I actually plugged in the wipe warmer ... So really I'm just getting things in their respective places. They aren't sleeping in there yet so I'm not in a rush. Ps ignor the giant teddy bear my oldest son thought it needed to go there when I wasn't paying attention.

  • I am just about 28 weeks and we just finished painting, carpeting and setting up the cribs. Everything else is just in a pile in the room waiting for me to hang, organize and sort it. We have a chair on order that won't arrive until close to their birth. I am glad to have it this close so I have places to put away their shower gifts. My hubby did 90% of the work. I was too tired to help with the remodeling and he did the cribs himself during my shower last Saturday.

  • I'm 17wks today, and haven't really started on the nursery!  We've been using it as a catch-all storage room for the past 3 years, so we're slowly cleaning it out.  I did take a huge trunkful of clothes that were in the floor to Goodwill a few weeks ago, so that's progress!  DH has been using the closet in there for overflow, so I'm trying to motivate him to go through and move it all out (he's a clothes whore), so that we'll have storage space for baby stuff.  My mom ordered our crib bedding just this week, so it will arrive any minute.  I'm going to try to order furniture before the end of January, so that hopefully by the time we hit the end of February (23 weeks) we'll have it all set up.

  • Not until about 36 weeks. Fortunately I was never on bedrest and they didn't come early. I would strongly advise finishing up early so you aren't 35 weeks pregnant and trying to paint a dresser.

  • I am still working on it at 34 weeks. I have 3 other kids and, honestly, it's just not a priority. You probably won't use the room all that much for months, but it just depends on if you want them in your room or not while they are still newborn. The most important thing was that I had the dresser prepped, filled with all their clothes, diapers, burp clothes, etc. Outside of that, I figure the room set up and decorations can wait. I can't really do anything at this point. I've been out of service since about 31 weeks.
  • I did a little here and there and had it 90% done by the time they were born. I really stressed about it and looking back it was silly, they didn't even see their room until at least a month old and sleep in it until 3 months.

  • Thanks, ladies. I don't know that it'll ever get done, but damn, I want it at least cleared out. DD, who is 2.5 is still occassionally getting touches her room. And I assume the boys will be in with us for 6 months or so (DD was). But I'll feel better just getting the crap outta there and some paint on the walls. And maybe ordering our crib and glider.

  • I just cleared the nursery out last week.  We were using it as storage.  My stepmom is throwing me a shower this weekend and while I am there my mom and SIL are going to paint our room. My brother and stepdad are going to put the cribs together!  Soo when we come home from the shower the room will be pretty much done. : )

  • 36 weeks and I was close to murdering my husband for taking so long to clear it out of his crap.

I showed my husband this post and he laughed but immediately went into planning mode with the tape measure. Lol I'm 16+5 with di/di.

  • We have everything that's going in... But need to find space for the things coming out. It used to be a guest room, so the big furniture is hard to find new homes for.
  • My twins turned 4 in December and we never fully finished their room.
