As you probably know (because my lovely LB
@mrsjenni has been so fantastic), induction started for me in the evening on 1/13.
TL;dr version: I don't think I'm dilating, it looks like I might officially have pre-e now, and my regular doctor is on call for the most week and said that if I need a c-section, to tell the OB dept here that she is doing it.
Here's my overview of everything so far:
- 1/13: it became clear my hypertension was not being controlled well. The attending MFM at the hospital made the decision that induction should begin. I was given Cervidil. A few hours later, I had a mini hypertensive crisis -- BP shot up to 165/121 (not the worst it has been, but pretty bad for being given a dose of meds approx 2 hours prior). Sudden onset nasty headache, vision blurry & doubled, and then a lovely nosebleed. They gave me a shot of hydro-something -- I was pretty out of it -- through my IV, and then it came down too fast. So that was a sleepless night. Fun times.
- 1/14: Removed cervidil, zero dilation. They tried to do a Foley balloon, but the attending could not even reach the end of my cervix. I have a very long vagina, apparently. I told them I didn't want the Foley balloon until I had least started dilating a tiny bit, so I ended up getting my way anyway. I was put on Pit from 8:30am to 5pm-ish. I started at level 2 and went up to 28. It doesn't look like it did anything but make me a horrible, emotional mess all day long.
Overnight, I was given 2 rounds of miso overnight last night. The fourth round will be coming in about 3 hours.
The overnight nurse told me that I have pre-eclampsia. It has not been confirmed by any doctors yet, but I'm going to ask about it when they do their rounds. I don't understand why they withhold info from people. It irritates the shit out of me. I just looked at my online chart, and apparently they've had the results since Monday night and never told me. WTF. It's just creatinine clearance that I can see so far, so I'm going to bring it up when they come in to discuss today's plan.
But if it is pre-e, it really doesn't change much other than the fact that a c-section will be more likely if I start to get worse. The good news is that my regular OB is on call during the day this entire week and also on Thursday night. Apparently both of her partners are out of town this week. She'll be busy, but she'll be the one making the decisions. That makes me happy. And she told me that if I need a c-section, no one is to perform it except for her. So that's good too.
Sorry for the novel. I think I'm going stir crazy. I'll update
@mrsjenni if anything changes.

I'm sorry that even after the last several months of pain and problems you don't get an "easy" delivery.
Hoping Mr. Muse is being supportive and greatful though that your regular OB is around frequently enough to be there to deliver this LO!
Thinking of you @peanutmuse
@wilburbud - When I was talking about the misoprostol, that is actually the same thing as Cytotec. Cytotec is just a brand name, if I remember correctly.
So yeah, I've now had one 12 hour cervidil insert, ~9 hours of pitocin which reached a dosage of 28 for 2.5 hrs, 3 rounds of misoprostol/Cytotec (the 4th one was cancelled)... and still had zero effacement or dilation. I am now on round 2 of the 12-hour cervidil insert.
My BFF had a similar experience with her induction. Went in on a Wed, finally had baby in the wee hours of Sat morning after several rounds of Cervadil, I think some pitocin, and maybe other meds. The on call OB gave her a hard time and pushed a section but she eventually did manage to have a vaginal birth once her Fort Knox cervix gave in! I don't think she made any progress until the Friday either.
A c section with your own doctor isn't terrible either though,
IMHO. If it does come to that. It definitely gave me peace of mind during my emergency c section with DS to know it was my OB, whom I trusted.
I hope you get to hold your baby soon either way! Seems like it's been a rough go for you.
Is the full moon working?
