Well, this was unexpected...

And I didn't want to wake up my LB @Mevaroo for what might not be anything yet...

I went to triage this afternoon for dehydration after not being able to hold anything down since Saturday (yay, HG). Thought I'd get the usual fluids and maybe an overnight admission but then be on my way. Well turns out I was contracting and they became more regular as time went on so the dr admitted me to L/D. Of course they could have been to severe dehydration too. The nurse in triage checked me and I was "maybe" 1 cm (yeah, her words) but still posterior. I was brought up to L/D around 6pm (PST). Had some light bleeding from the check I'm assuming, no other leaking. I'm getting fluids, and they did a GBS test. Contractions went from every 3-4 minutes to every 2, so they just checked me again. Still at a 1 but soft and no longer posterior, so they are counting it as some change. They are giving me penicillin because the GBS results won't be back till tomorrow. Continued fluids and monitoring and another cervix check in a few hours. If any progression they'll do an U/S to ensure baby is head down. I was so not prepared for this to happen tonight, MH is home with the baby and trying to get here asap even though I'm still not convinced this is true labor and not a result of dehydration. We'll see what happens! I'm 35+3 weeks for those on mobile (BUT my EDD is based only on growth scans, and he was measuring big last week...).

Hey! Sorry you're having to go through this but glad you were admitted for dehydration. Sounds like you needed the close monitoring. BIG HUGS!!!

Are they giving you anything to stop the contractions? Trebutaline?

Oh and can I just say I'd forgotten how horribly uncomfortable the L/D "beds" (if you can call them that) are?

T&P's to you and your LO!! I hope it does turn out to be from dehydration and not actual labor so the baby can bake for awhile longer. Sucks that you are in L&D all night... I hope you can get some sleep!

Hope you get good news! L&D beds are awful! I was told the maternal fetal unit would be better after delivery, but my lord those robotic hard beds are for the birds!!

Do you have friends/family that can go stay with your LO so that DH can be with you?!

Yes, I agree, those beds are horrid! Ask for lots of pillows and make a "nest" for yourself.

Any more news from the doctors?

The postpartum beds are much better. These beds are bad because they come apart for delivery. So between that and the constant monitoring it's not very comfortable. No more updates yet, the plan is to check me again in a couple of hours. I think MH is on his way here. I unfortunately did not have plans for DD solidified for various reasons (and we are new to the area so not many friends yet and no family around)... it's been very stressful but I have some friends at church that I think will work out fine (both offered in the past, we just hadn't firmed the plans up yet). For now, my 20-year-old SS is going to have to suck it up and possibly change a diaper or two. ;-) He'll be fine.

Yikes!! Hopefully not true labor and just dehydration. FX for you!! And yeah L&D beds blow a fat one. I'm like 6" too tall for them and my feet hang over. No thanks!

Thinking of you sweety! Hope they can get you hydrated and stop the contractions but also that your cervix hangs tight a few more weeks. But know that IF you do end up delivering baby has an awesome chance and being perfectly fine or needing just minimal assistance! (((Hugs)))

Thanks for all the love, everyone! Contractions ended up slowing down, probably thanks to the fluids... yay! I am exhausted because it's even more impossible to sleep in L/D than a regular hospital room (my hips and back are really hating me right now), and I'm still nauseous, but Fx I can go home soon. I don't know when I will see the doctor but hoping for soon! Thanks again. Wake up call for me to finally get off my butt and pack bags for DD and finalize babysitting arrangements for her.
