January 2014 Moms

Feels like I'm going crazy!

I'm a FTM, and my due date is set for tomorrow, but I have this feeling that it's not going to happen anytime soon. I know I shouldn't try to rush this, and that my little one will come when she's ready, but I feel so ready! My doctor told me I'll be induced once I reach 41 weeks, but I don't think I can wait that much longer. Are there any other moms out there who are/were just as impatient as I am? If so, how do/did you deal with this?

Re: Feels like I'm going crazy!

  • My due date was Saturday and I was really hoping to be holding my LO by now. Instead I've been enjoying the past few days with my family and friends before LO arrives. My toddler is loving all the mommy time she is getting, as I started maternity leave two weeks ago. We play princesses, go see the local horses and have really long bath time whenever we want.

  • My due date for my second is next Saturday and I am an anxious ball of stress. I was contracting all last night - thinking it was go time only to wake up this morning at 445 - clearly not in labor. It can be maddening. I have a hard time thinking I will make it till then - but, we will make it and when it happens it will be great. Still, watching that due date come and go - I did with my daughter, is ridiculously difficult.

  • I think it is safe to assume everyone is anxious and ready to meet their LOs.

As a FTM what I did to help calm my nerves was to nest and get everything ready for DD. When I got tired of cleaning and nesting, I would spend a lot of time talking on the phone to my sisters and mom, read some books, and cooked meals that I could add to my freezer. When DH would get home from work, we would often go on "one last date" or spent a lot of time just the two of us.

This time around along with my nesting I am spending a lot of time with DD.

QFT. (Quoted For Truth, for the newbs out there...)

Seriously, I can imagine that the population of women who would not be anxious to meet their babies if they have gone past due is miniscule.

Personally, I would go about my day and do as much as possible that will be difficult with a newborn. And honestly, sleep as much as possible.
  • I am 41 weeks now and of course I'm excited to meet baby boy but I've been trying to savor these last days of kicks inside my belly.

I've mostly been resting and nesting at home but when I start to go crazy like you mentioned you're feeling - I find it helps to get out of the house. I kept bursting into tears yesterday so I went for a walk downtown, but even just getting a prescription filled at the drugstore -getting out helps me calm down.

The other thing that helps me calm down is playing my labor playlist and singing along.

Honestly I wouldn't mind waiting even longer for LO to make his arrival ... It's been nice being with SO and having all our friends and family abuzz with excitement. We will spend the rest of our lives with our son - what's a few more days with him on the inside? :)

DQFT (Double quoted for truth). Can I do that? Make up bump terms?

  • Today was originally my due date but they changed it to next week. I really wish it would end up being today though.

  • I'm right there with you in being anxious to meet LO.  Just think though, that at least you have an end date that has been given to you.  Even if it seems so far away, a week can go really quickly.  Just try to do all the things like PP's said that would be harder to do with a baby- take a nap when you feel like it, watch a TV show you enjoy, go out and pamper yourself, enjoy just wandering around the store and not having to rush through shopping trips, get you house ready or spend time cooking freezer meals.  Hang out with friends who dont have kids - sometimes those relationships can change after you have LO so get in some quality time now.

  • Due date is tomorrow and no LO yet. As much as I want her to hold in my arms, I try to think about the things I can do now without having to worry about doing them with a NB.

  • As PP said, SLEEP, SLEEP A LOT.  I miss sleep.

  • I felt that way on my due date and went into labour that night. You never know. It IS going to happen- very soon- either way.

Til then go do something 'selfish' with your time. It'll be here before you know it, seriously.

  • Agree about sleep, doing something selfish, and get organized. Our first night home would have been a bit easier if we had everything for feeding diapering and sleep in one spot. We thought we did but we didn't! Also DH had a nice dinner the night before I was induced and I would not take that memory or time back for the world!
