New Cycle

Hey Gals
I don't know how many of you deal with extended cycles but, I just wanted to share that I am CD2 as of today and I couldn't be happier! My last cycle was 107 days and I am suspicious that FF's predicted O date was wrong. My chart is really really wonky, I wish I could see a temp shift clearly. I don't think I o'ed at all honestly.

Anyway how do you get through your long cycles?

Re: New Cycle

  • I'm sorry- that's a super long cycle! Honestly, the longest I ever had was around 60 days right after BC and the cycle right before I got pregnant with DS. I was so blissfully ignorant then that I didn't think too much about it. Are your cycles only long when your chart is wacky?

  • No I am always dealing with long cycles, I don't ever recall a time I have had "normal" cycles.

  • I have always had long cycles, too.  I never even thought anything of it till I went on the pill when I first got married and realized getting AF every four weeks sucked, lol!  Until that point, I didn't even think twice about it.

Regarding your temps being wacky, do you take your temperature orally or vaginally?  When I take mine orally, its far less consistent and more difficult to interpret.  On the few cycles that I've switched to vaginally, it's been a very clear temp shift at o.  Since you're starting a new cycle, now would be a great time to switch.

Regarding the emotions of dealing with long cycles, please let me know when you figure out a way to stay sane!  Some days are good and some days are not so good.

Also, I tried to check out your char, but it opened my chart instead, so I think have the wrong address linked there.  Or maybe we have the same chart, lol?  Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but wanted to mention it since I couldn't chart stalk you.

  • Do you have PCOS? Long cycles are part of that. I have very long cycles (sometimes I don't have a period for 6 months or more). It's all part of PCOS, weird hormones and as a result I'm annovulatory. When I first started TTC, the OB put me on progesterone every month to regulate my cycle and try to keep it closer to 30 days. After a few months with progesterone and no pregnancy she started doing day 3 and day 11 ultrasounds to see if I was ovulating at all. I wasn't, so we moved to more aggressive fertility treatments.
    I'm 29. DH is 29.

  • @GraceyanTroy - I temp orally, it's interesting that there would be such a difference between vaginal and oral! I may give it a try and see how it goes, sticking a thermometer in my vag kinda weirds me out but hey its worth a shot right ? Try looking at my chart again I think I put the right code in =)

@EmilyB15 - No I have not been DX with PCOS. However I have gone as long as you (6 months or more) without a period. I had a full lab done and all my levels were fine. I have been prescribed Provera one time (cycle that was 100+ days). I am convinced I ovulate sporadically and not regularly. My OB says I am not ovulating either. Obviously. She said she will put me on Metformin but I am still waiting on that, since I have had a hard time losing the 20lbs she wanted me to drop. Which in the grand scheme of things isn't that much. However she DX me as Unexplained and Anovulatory.

  • She wants you to wait for the met until you've lost 20 lbs?  That seems odd to me since the metformin would probably help you lose weight.  I lost a lot of weight when I went on it.  And, within about 5 months, I started having cycles again.  Not ovulating, and totally irregular, but I was  at least bleeding on my own again.  I think you should ask your Dr to let you start now instead of waiting.

I was able to see your chart.  I def don't think you o'ed last cycle.  But good luck on this one!

I was just going to say the same thing? That is odd.  Metformin has helped many women lose weight.  Or have you decided to wait?

Well according to my doctor, metformin works better on women under a certain weight. In my case that is 22lbs from where I am at. Maybe she is just telling me that to give me an incentive to lose weight.
