Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Taking advice

I had my D&C today. When I was at the hospital I was crying a lot.. The nurse asked if we had a name picked out. We didn't, we didn't know if it was a boy or girl (11weeks along) she told me it might help with our grieving process if we picked a name.
So we did: Skylar H.

Did anyone else do this for their baby? So far it's nice calling him by a name instead of "it" or "baby"

Re: Taking advice

  • My wife is Hawaiian, and based on the Ramzi method, our baby was a girl (like you, too early too tell).  We are naming her Kaleihali'a, which means "A cherished memory never forgotten."
    Current pregnancy -
First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.

  • We lost our angel at 8 weeks and it was my husband who asked if we can name them. I said beautiful idea and went with a unisex name, rylee. For Christmas I got an angel ornament engraved with rylee on it and we will hang it in the tree every year to honor them
  • We refer to our first loss as Baby Olive(r) b/c it made it to 9 weeks, which The Bump compares in size to an olive. We have not picked a name for #2 which we just lost a little over a week ago, and only made it to about 5 weeks. It helped me to have a name for the first, so I'll eventually pick something that feels right for the second.
    Me: 41, DH: 42, married 2009
    BFP #1: 12/05/2012; EDD 08/09/2013; MC 01/2013 (missed, D&C)
    BFP #2: 12/19/2013; EDD 08/25/2014; MC 01/2014 (natural)
  • Too everyone who responded: your names are all so beautiful. Brought me to tears. Thank you for sharing with me.
  • My husband and I called our baby Poppy Seed because that is how big it was when we found out that I was indeed pregnant. For some reason the nickname stuck all the way to the day I had my m/c. I guess we will just look back and cherish the poppy seed we once had.
