FTM: Movement vs. gas pain

Bear with me: I know we have 3,000 threads on this, but I didn't see this particular version come up before.

So, last night, I became aware of a ... sensation. Right in the center of my belly. It wasn't the "flutter" I've been expecting, but it didn't feel like gas, either. Nor was it crampy or RLP-like. It's really hard to describe what it felt like: It wasn't sharp, it wasn't hard, it was just ... a sensation. (Try to explain how the sleeve of a cotton shirt feels on your arm. You know it's there but it doesn't really feel like much.)

This went on for a few minutes, stopped, then moved over a bit toward my right side. Then back to the center. Then I couldn't feel it any more. Happened again this morning at work. Both times it was when I was sitting without moving for awhile.

Was that movement or is my wishful thinking getting the better of me?

  • I don't know but I have had almost the exact same thing. Mine is kind of like a tingling maybe would be a way to describe it.

  • Did it feel like pops? Like popcorn?

  • I say movement but that may be because I've had the same thing this week and want it to be the baby ;) Does it feel like a muscle twinge?

It's so hard to describe: Maybe tingling or a "twinge" is a better way to put it. But a very, very mild twinge -- not at all like a cramp.

I would almost call it a warming sensation -- except it didn't actually feel hot. (I know that doesn't make sense.) Sort of like when my cat lays on my belly, but with no pressure.

I just felt hyper-aware of one spot on my belly for a bit. It felt like something was happening there, and it didn't feel like any of the other things that have been going on in there recently.

  • I think it's the baby then!
  • Sounds like baby to me!

  • I always thought it felt like a push. As if you were to lightly push on your arm. Hiccups feel more like muscle spasms.
  • I just had this happen to me. Middle if my belly under the belly button - like a twinge or pop. I've been having that a few times in the last week. Not 100% sure it's baby but I like to think it is! ;)

  • It sounds like movement. I've been feeling it all week in the same spot. Sometimes I get annoyed because it feels like a constant twitch that won't stop, and then I remember its the baby!

Yes --- that's exactly where it was.

  • Pretty sure you're feeling baby! :) embrace it. (Even if it's not, how are you, or anyone else for that matter, going to be proven otherwise) I felt flutters for 2-3 weeks. Then it was gentle kicks. Now she kicks every night. Hubs can't feel them yet, but it won't be long (I hope not anyway)

  • I've been feeling the flutters on and off for the last 2 weeks. They've progressively been getting stronger. It's a very odd sensation. But it really does feel like a muscle spasm. So weird!

  • I vote baby too. Right now your intestines are pushed up higher than your belly button so that's all uterus right there in the center. Congrats :):)

  • Yup, had that. I think it's a big part of the baby brushing against you, not hand or leg.

  • I'm glad you asked, too! I've been feeling a twinge-type sensation too.

    Awwww.... like a little snuggle!

    /verge of tears

I'm so happy I asked. I held off all day thinking everyone would laugh at me and tell me it was gas, but I had to get feedback.

    YAY!

I'm so glad you asked! I was afraid I would get SS'ed but this is what I have been feeling too!

  • I read some where that the early flutters are the baby flipping or turning. I felt the same way for a few weeks! Wasn't sure what I was feeling! The other night I felt kicks! It was most certainly the baby!! It's was so exciting. I've only felt it one since then though. Congrats on the awesome feeling :-)
  • I'm fairly certain you're feeling movement. I wonder the same thing (is it gas?) because the feeling is so faint, and they're not all the same feelings, either. But when I consider the location of the "feeling" I'm sure it's the baby. Its coming more and more often since I first starting feeling it. It's comforting. I got someone with me.

  • It's probably the baby! I don't like the analogy of butterflies or butterfly wings either. It's not what it feels like. I like the "popcorn" sensation mentioned above, or the 'bubbles popping'. I was telling my US tech that I didn't know how to describe it, and said it was like bubbles popping. Sometimes when I feel it, my heart skips a beat. It's a weird feeling...but great feeling. But yes, so darn hard to describe to someone or use words for it.
  • Yeah, my baby has never felt like butterflies or flutters.
