Gah. dealing with crazy round ligament pain or worse?

Dealing with round ligament pain for a while. My right side is always worse. Had to dash across the street yesterday and since then walking, moving my leg, anything like that feels like the worst idea ever. Getting up from sitting or laying down seems to aggravate it. Searing pain around my groin area when I do that.

Will call the dr today. Part of me is scared this is something worse, but I'm trying to tell myself its me that's affected. Not my LO. Anyone experience something like this (though I really hope not)?

  • Could just be you aggravated a ligament. My doc told me Friday to apply a little pressure to the opposite side from the pain, and if it helps then it is rlp.

  • It sounds similar to sciatic pain. I have intense pain when trying to walks or site up. It is right above my groin area and hurts really bad at times. I found that a little heat on the spot helps a lot. Good luck!

I agree with calling your doc but until you get a hold of him.. My doctor told me that round ligament pain, as well as the uterus shifting can be quite painful. He said to rest/put up my feet when it gets bad and it will pass. I also had bad sciatic pain that sounds similar, and I found some awesome stretches online that completely got rid of it. One was a yoga pose, pigeon pose. The other I just found by googling "stretching for sciatica". Good luck! Let us know what your doc says!
  • RLP and sciatica pain is really common in pregnancy.  It's such a pain and usually comes out of no where but I have found stretching to be the best way to deal with it!

  • I would agree with pps. I rolled over last night and it felt like someone shanked me in hip! Not good. Stretching and resting should help. Good luck!

  • I have been experiencing awful shooting pain down my right leg for a few weeks. I saw my OB and described where the pain was and apparently I have a pinched nerve in two spots. Round ligament and sciatic. It's awful. I try to stay rested and with my feet up most of the time, but DH works and DD is a toddler...so good luck with that. I have tried stretching, and found on all fours flexing my hips (SLOWLY) feels the best. I have been using heat on my sciatic nerve and it feels lovely too.
Sometimes it's so bad, I can't walk and I get stuck in spots with this blinding shooting pain. This morning I had to crawl on my hands and knees to the bathroom to pee. Two nights ago I got stuck on the toilet after peeing, tried to get up and fell back down from the pain. I couldn't get up and it made me cry from the pain. I was there for 10 mins before hobbling back to bed.
Try not to lift very much and take it easy.

  • Thanks everyone. My dr thought it was either round ligament or a possible blood clot (eek). Bc it just seems like a worse variation of what was before, he figures it to be rlp. Resting is helping, and I'll try a heating pad.

    Feel well everyone!

  • I had an inflamed appendix the first part of Dec. and from what I was told, RLP and appendix can fill very similar. Vanderbilt showed us a few things to "test" at home to be able to determine the difference, one was laying flat, with legs stretched out straight and have DH lift my right leg and support it and hit my heel, if it caused increased pain it was my appendix again.

Otherwise they told me to expect pain of the same level with the RL, and I would just have to breath thru it :( which sucks, It happened this morning around 2:30 and kept me up in tears til after 5 :(

good luck to all I know sciatic nerve and the RLP is brutal :(

  • Is it possible your baby is sitting low? I know twins and singletons are different but my twin a is positioned right across my cervix with feet jammed under one hip and frequently punches the other. Sometimes it hurts so bad to stand up and I get pains. I'd say call your OB if it's really bad though, better safe than sorry IMO
