Whole face tingling.. ***UPDATE***

I am assuming this is another random symptom of pregnancy and I have left a message for my doctor but while I wait just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

My face feels like it is falling asleep, it is tingling and my vision seems like it is hard to focus. It isn't blurry just can't focus well.  The tingling starts right above my eyes and wraps around down to my mouth on both sides. Baby has moved here and there this morning but he is usually pretty quiet during the morning anyway.

Has anyone else experienced this? TIA

I am 37+2 today

****UPDATE**** I went in and they did a non stress test and the baby passed after 30 min. They took my blood pressure and it was within normal range after sitting there a while. They said they have no idea why my face is still tingling and why my vision is acting up. They didn't do a urine sample and sent me home. I see a Nurse Practitioner on Friday morning so they said to follow up at that time. They said this could be my new normal until I deliver. They said they have no idea why it's happening and can't even guess. So I still have tingling in all of my face and my lips and I still can't focus. So no answers other than it could be normal. Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. I'm headed to bed to try and get rid of it.

  • My first two thoughts would be Bell's palsy or pre-e. I hope it's just a strange blip and that your doctor gets back to you soon.

  • There was a thread a long long time ago on this when we were all not that far along, maybe around 20 weeks or so. I can't find the thread but there was a mention that this could be pre-e related. Not to scare you, but call the doc and discuss what you're feeling. Any other symptoms you should mention to the doc when calling? BP okay? Swelling? Vision changes?
  • I just had my cousin check my blood pressure (she is pregnant and bought a blood pressure machine from the hospital because she has to monitor her high blood pressure every day) My blood pressure has ranged from 108-120 over 60-68 this whole pregnancy.

At rest my blood pressure is currently 135/85.  When she first checked it, it was 143/78.

I am still waiting for a call back from the Dr. The swelling in my hands and feet are normal and nothing out of the ordinary. My skin comes back quickly and my color is good. Vision is ok, it just is very hard to focus. I don't see spots and it isn't blurry. The baby just started moving alot so that is reassuring.

Thanks ladies, I will let you know what I find out from the Dr.

  • Glad you called the dr! I also thought bell's palsy or pre-e, and it's better to be safe obviously!

I would call again and share your BP and your symptoms. And if you don't hear soon (like within an hour) I'd call and speak the receptionist and ask if you can be seen today.

  • I hope you're being seen or have heard back. The high blood pressure and vision issues and tingling make me worried for you.

  • @sweet*18- has your doc called back? Pre-e isn't anything to joke about...I'd go get checked out just in case!!!! GL!!!
  • Yes, at this point if you haven't gotten a call back, please just go in and get checked out. Hope you're okay!

  • No I haven't been seen and keep getting the run around! I have called 4 times and they said he is working in the hospital and haven't had a chance to ask him!

I asked them if they can ask another Dr and she said my Dr prefers to answer questions! The last time they did this, my Dr chewed the nurse out for delaying a response. The nurse also said if it was pre-e symptoms, my blood pressure would be higher. Well I haven't taken it since 11am this morning, I might have my cousin stop by again and take it. GRR

My face is still tingling, vision is still wonky. I am getting pissed. I am ready to walk in to L&D and demand to be checked out. I hate being that patient but this is ridiculous!

  • Walk into L&D. Please. It is NOT worth the risk that this is pre-e and they haven't even ASKED your doctor yet?

I'd also complain directly to your doctor about this.

At this point, I would just go in!  It's been a long time to not have a response yet. Hopefully it's nothing -- just a weird migraine thing or something -- but you should definitely have it checked out!  Good luck!

  • Please go in, better safe than sorry! GL!!!
  • I'd for sure go into L&D. I had this happen from an allergic reaction to the wax they used on my eyebrows. Bees wax. This was years ago so not PG.

  • Finally got a call back and the nurse apologized over and over and said they got a hold of him and he wants me to go to L&D asap to get checked out. The tingling has spread as well

  • That's absolutely ridiculous!!! I'm so sorry this happened to you today. Keep us posted!!! T&P's
  • A PSA for everyone....symptoms like these deserve attention quickly. In the future, you don't need to wait to be seen in L&D. Go to the ER and watch how fast you are seen.

  • So happy you heard back! Update when you can! T&ps to you!
  • If it's just on one side, it could be a migraine. I get optical migraines and those are my symptoms too.

Yes, but it could also be pre-e which is extremely serious. That's why she needs to see her doctor ASAP.

  • I'm glad you got checked, but I'm side eyeing them for not checking your urine. Please go back if anything changes or you have a gut feeling things are going badly.

  • I agree. I even asked the nurse if I could give a urine sample and her response was "well the doctor didn't order it but I guess you could pee in a cup and if we need it, we will take it".. so I even peed in a cup and they said they didnt need it so they threw it out.. Wish they would've just ran a test on it even if everything else seemed "ok" by them. I am not impressed with the staff at all right now.. :( The tingling in my face is still there this morning.

  • I had something similar two weeks ago. Its started with my vision being off. I could not focus dead on, I had to look at something off center in order to 'see' it (like how a star will disappear when you look at it directly in the night sy, but you can see it if you look at it from a different angle). It was kinda like having a blind spot in the center of your vision. Then I had tingling on my left hand, and then my upper lip. I also felt slightly confused, like I was in a dream state. The whole episode lasted about 20 minutes. I told my doctor about it. She did not seem too concerned and suggested we will perhaps do a scan after the birth. Note: My blood pressure has been low throughout the pregnancy. It hasn't happened since. I have since made a mental note of it, but also shugged it off.
  • I would def go in. Pre-e  USUALLY shows high BP, but it doesn't always present.

Please go and please make sure your doctor chews that nurse out again, because apparently she never learned the first time.

  • Note: If it would have happened to anyone else, I would have told them to get assessed a.s.a.p.
  • Wow. : / This sounds so scary! I'm sorry that you're going through this. :( You did a great job of advocating for yourself, and persistently standing your ground. I agree with PPs that, since this could be serious, don't hesitate to go directly to the ER. Who knows --- With cutting out the middle man (i.e. Your provider), and going to a place that addresses emergencies, then perhaps a new set of eyes could see something and catch something that your provider wouldn't bc of his perspective. .....Like maybe yhey'd gladly take your pee aaaand test it!! Thinking of you and hoping for the best! :) Good Luck!!
  • @sweet*18- how're you feeling now that the day is almost over?
