Baby Friendly Date NIghts/Outings

I know that seems like a strange post title, but DH and I really don't mind bringing Mia on dates with us because she's such a quiet baby and we can still have whatever conversations we want in front of her right now.  Our family is all 3+ hours away, so it isn't easy to drop her at someone's house to go out for a couple of hours.  I know when she gets older I wouldn't have a problem with a baby sitter, but right now I'd rather just bring her with us.  You get the drift.  Any fun ideas?  We're in upstate NY, so outdoor stuff isn't going to work very well right now!  We've taken her out since she was born, so no issue with that for us.  I'm just getting tired of our only option being going out to grab dinner somewhere.  It'd be nice to change things up somehow!

  • What part of upstate NY? I'm originally from Rochester, so I might have some ideas, depending how far you want to travel. :)

@LibberDuck Small world!  We're about 2 hours south of Rochester in the Corning Elmira area!
  • I do like the aquarium idea for her, but I'm not aware of one that is less than a couple of hours away.
  • That's so funny, I was actually going to suggest the Museum of Glass! I've never been, but I've always wanted to go and I feel like it would be a good place to go in the winter.

Duh!  She might like looking at some of the stuff there.  We've been a few times and if you're a resident it's pretty cheap, I think like $5!  I'm originally from the Catskills so sometimes I don't think of things around here the quickest.  Rochester is a fun little city too!
  • If you want to go into Rochester, there's the Museum of Play (which I always enjoyed even as an adult) and the Rochester Museum & Science Center. Those are two of my favorite "date" places.

I miss it so much! We moved just over 4 years ago for DH's job and now that we have kids, I really want to get back to the area. I never appreciated how much there is to do there until I moved somewhere where there is literally nothing for 120 miles!

    Edited for grammar.

  • Small world - I actually live in Elmira. The glass museum is great, and the Rockwell museum is good too.

No help on the date ideas but I wanted to say my cousin lives in Elmira and is a midwife. I wonder if she was at your hospital!?

Elmira only has 1 hospital now so she was likely at the one I delivered at.

  • How about bowling? Or do you have a Dave and Busters around you?
  • I don't live to far from you, I am in Binghamton. I struggle with the same thing due to the cold weather.
  • Buffalo here. Thanks for posting, nice to see some ideas not too far away!!! :)

  • What about going antiquing?

  • Thanks for all of the ideas!  Maybe we'll do the museum this weekend!

@brandeeteer @dana0212 @jegoehle and anyone else who is "local"...what about doing some kind of a local meetup...even if it isn't really frequent since we're all a little bit spread out.  We could always make a post and see if there is anyone else that might be interested?
  • Sounds good to me. I'm already back to work but am free on weekends depending on when.

  • Sounds good to me. I go back to work next week, so I will only be free on weekends or school holidays. But I will be off all summer.
  • I'm also free on weekends as long as I'm not covering at work.

  • Also free on weekends (generalky)! Any suggestions?
