Food allergies

Anyone dealing with food allergies?  I'm allergic to a LOT of foods, and the recommendation from the dr. was to let her try all the baby foods, even ones I'm allergic to, as long as we space them out so we can tell if one causes an allergy (although, clearly, stay away from things like peanuts).  Well, today was the first day we've given her a food I'm allergic to.  We gave N pears from a Happy Baby pouch and a couple of hours later her left eye is a little swollen :(  I called the pediatrician and they said to continue to watch her closely and see if her mouth starts to swell (which is what happens to me) and if so, to call them back.  Otherwise, the swelling around her eye will hopefully go down, and they referred us to an allergist since it appears she will have some allergies.

Has anyone gone to an allergist with a baby?  I've done it myself, but I'm not sure how they'll test a baby for allergies - prick test? blood test? Do they make baby epi pens?

  • Each doctor is different but they will probably do a prick test first. Its really not that bad both of my older boys had it done around year old. I'm not sure about the Epi pen. My friends LO is allergic to peanuts and he got the Epi pen around 1.5 years old. Hopefully the swelling will go down!
