20 weeks Have had all day all night congestion for at least 3 weeks. Dr says it's due increased estrogen. Tried sleeping in different positions, but not much help. Ideas?
I didn't have congestion but did have problems getting comfortable. I used lots of pillows to help to prop and pad myself. Sorry you're going through this
OMG I so hear you. I get it in every pregnancy and it's brutal. It's not just "a little congestion" , it is full blown I can't breathe and it feels like someone is suffocating me. I've tried everything and nothing works. Would love to hear others suggestions as I'm getting so little sleep because of it.
I haven't had it that bad during the day but it's awful at night. It affects my sleep because I'm a nose breather. When I breathe out of my mouth my throat gets dry and I end up coughing through the night.
I got a cool most humidifier and it has helped. It didn't do much the first couple of nights but then I started pointing it almost directly in my face and it's much better. It's adjustable too so I turn it way up. I also use saline spray to help loosen things up.
I know how annoying it is. And when I blow my nose it's always bloody...sorry, TMI. My OB said that is also normal.
By about 22 weeks I was snoring like a buzz saw and felt like I was drowning. I seriously wondered whether I'd ever be able to breathe right again. About 5 days postpartum I was back to normal. I used the Neti pot, breathe right strips and propped myself up with pillows to keep my head and throat at a comfortable-ish angle. Mostly this is just a "I promise it gets better afterward" post. Good luck and hang in there!
I'm 24 weeks with triplets! The congestion is no fun I have it to. I've taken a sofa cushion(it's large) and placed that against our headboard, then a body pillow lays flat against that then a small round pillow for back support, then my regular head pillow. Now I also have really bad swelling at night so I also have a wedge that goes under my butt and lifts my legs....I'll take a picture it'll make ya laugh but It has seriously helped. I also keep a Tervis Cup with ice water in it and try to drink throughout the night if I wake up, I've been sleeping like this for 2 weeks now and I'd say I'm asleep within 15-20 minutes and stay asleep for 6 hrs normally....
