NBR: Tacky Wedding Commercial

David's Bridal started running this ad and I think it's disgusting.

Basically the point of it is that the groom is invisible, nobody cares about him, and the wedding is all about the dress.

WTF? I think that's such an awful thing to say. People love to talk about how your wedding is the most important day of your life, and that attitude kills me.

Watch the commercial and weigh in :) What does S13 think?

Re: NBR: Tacky Wedding Commercial

  • I don't know about you, but I didn't get married because I was in love. I just wanted a pretty dress. ;)

    Terrible commercial.

  • I think it's a stupid commercial but I'm not offended by it or anything.  Let's be honest, at most weddings people can't wait to see the bride in her dress, but they don't sit there waiting with anticipation to see the groom in his tux.

For me personally my dress wasn't the biggest thing.  I was more excited about the awesome food and band we had.

  • Meh. David's bridal sells wedding dresses. A bride wants to find her perfect dress to marry the love of her life. What better way to get her in there than to say "heyyyy we gots your pppeerrrffffeeccct dress".

Poorly done? Yea but it's a commercial. If a bride felt like that irl then the marriage probably won't last long.
  • This commercial is geared towards the droves of newly engaged ladies who can't wait to try on 372 dresses. It's NMS for sure, but it's just marketing.

  • Eh, terrible commercial but I'd be lying if I said when I got engaged one of the first things I thought wasn't about what dress I would wear.

  • I think the commercial is pretty silly, but it doesn't bug me too much. My DH on the other hand would hate it, he gets incredibly annoyed by stuff like that. He was just as involved in our wedding planning as I was.

  • Ew. It's gross. I'm not offended by it, though. I probably wouldn't have given it too much thought if I saw it on TV. But I do hate that attitude a lot.

  • I'm not offended, but I really don't like it. I hate the whole mentality of "the wedding is all about the bride." (Although I do love watching train wrecks on Bridezillas) And no groom should feel invisible on their wedding day. That's just sad.
  • I think it's silly but I'm not offended by it. Our wedding day was about US and the fact that WE were getting married. I wasn't even one of those brides that freaked out the day of the wedding. I knew at the end of the day we would be married and that was what I was most concerned about not that I had every single detail perfect.
  • I don't see the big deal... The store sells dresses so it's commercial is all about te dress and enticing a bride to shop for the perfect dress. It's just marketing!

    This.

This commercial actually reminds me of the Men's Warehouse commercial.  It basically says the same thing, but in a sweeter way... and they're selling tuxes not dresses so...

  • The wedding industry as a whole kind of disgusts me. The markup on anything wedding related is abusrd, even for the exact same item that is non-wedding.

As an example...I was making hula hoop Christmas light chandeliers for the tent at our outdoor reception. I ran out of lights and it was August, so they weren't easy to come by. It was a Sunday so Hobby Lobby was closed and I ended up at Michaels. They had a few boxes of white Christmas lights in their bridal section for $7.99 for a 100-light strand. I was paying $3.99 box at Hobby Lobby in the holiday department. Absurd! If I didn't need the lights THAT DAY I would've waited. I was so mad.
