Hands Foot Mouth

So my 2 yr was diagnosed with HFMD. The papers I was given looks like it will last about a week. He has sores in his mouth that really started bothering him last night and they seem to be getting worse. He is miserable. How long do the sores typically last and is there anything you did to keep your LO feeling better? I feel so bad for him.

  • My friends son has this as well and her doc said nothing really just time, she has had luck with slurped and food pouches that are cold from the fridge- good luck

  • They are pretty miserable. Both DD and DS have had it now. DD ran fever, DS did not. Alternate Tylenol and Motrin, push liquids (I had to squirt Gatorade in a syringe in DD's mouth b/c she was refusing to drink) and just give lots of cuddles. I found once the blisters actually popped out, both LOs got better.

  • Keep it mind it also comes with aches and pains so generally its miserable. The sores in the mouth are the worst so use popcicles (we used frozen yogurt kind), pouches and anything that will sooth. Push water as much as possible and just alot of cuddles. Both of my kids had it in November and it was less than a week for the big one and about a week for the little one. Good luck

  • Cold, soft foods and tylenol/Ibprofen.  When DD had it the mouth sores were gone in a few days but her legs took longer to heal.

  • You can also have them swish benadryl mixed with milk of magnesia to help with the pain in the mouth. And definitely tylenol and ibuprofen for the pain! I hope he feels better ASAP!
