Persistent cold

Any babies out there with seemingly persistent colds all winter (sniffles/runny nose)? If so, what type of child care situation do you have: daycare (center or in-home) or other arrangements (SAHM, etc.)?

How long has LO had the cold?

How much do you let it affect your lives (i.e. change where you would go, what you would do, etc.)

Our LO seems like he has constantly had a cold since he started daycare in October. It will get mostly better and then come right back. There is never really any fever, just runny nose and cough. Or sometimes dry nose and cough. We were taking him to the doctor every week or two for a while, but there wasn't much they could do since it's a cold. My friend said her LO's first winter, she was constantly mildly sick until March, so I wonder if that's what we are in for.

We try to use our best judgment with how we let it affect our lives. I've been to visit a 1.5 month baby but left LO behind with my DH. My family with older children know he's constantly sniffly, but they don't mind and say to bring him around anyway. We go out into public places when his sniffles/cough don't seem too bad but keep him away from other young kids. We just can't stay cooped up all the time.

It comes and goes, but I know it's more weather-related than anything. Both my kids are in daycare and neither have had anything serious (yet...fingers crossed). We try to stay away from other kids if there is active hacking and sneezing, but a runny nose will not keep us inside.

Contact stuffy nose and sneezing on and off since she was 3 months old. She is not in daycare. I don't think she's actually sick unless her nose is draping and/or she has a cough. I have not let it change going out or getting together with people because it just seems to be a constant with her.

Daycare baby here. It's been horrible all winter despite steroid based nebulizer and albuterol nebulizer treatments several times a day. At the height of it, we were doing 5 treatments a day. We are meeting with an infant pulmonologist in a couple of weeks.

I'm not kidding - everyone in our house has been sick almost every single week since Quinn was born. We literally caught a cold the week he came home from the hospital and it hasn't stopped yet. Both boys are in daycare so it's just part of the deal. If it was just a regular cold I wouldn't mind but it does suck that it often turns into an ear infection or bronchiolitis. Oh and each of them has had a mild case of pneumonia as well (as have I). We don't let colds impact our lives because if we did, we'd be homebound.

We had more congestion than normal for about two months that persisted after his first daycare cold - so I put SS. It wasn't quite enough to be considered a persistent cold, and the pediatrician said that it was fairly normal for daycare babies in the winter/their sinuses are developing and they're bound to be more sniffly at this age - so I don't know. It did eventually clear up, though now that we've started a new daycare we'll see ...

L's been congested all winter (daycare baby) with a runny/stuffy nose on and off and a little cough on and off (although I think he also does his coughing noise because it gets him attention, little stinker).

We did find out that the congestion is actually a sign of reflux rather than a cold, it was actually our only indicator that he had reflux!

I don't change any of our plans unless he's clearly actually sick/has a fever. I do warn any kids we're going to see but otherwise we go out, we'd never see daylight if we didn't at this rate.

DD is a daycare baby and has overall been really healthy. She did just get her first cold last Friday and was pretty miserable over the weekend but did seem to be acting alittle better this morning.

DS on the other hand was constantly sick his first winter in daycare. Colds that led to ear infections, RSV, hand foot mouth, you name it and he caught it.

@BC&LM Thank you. I had some serious mommy guilt about daycare because of this after my mom said that I was causing all this illness by leaving him at daycare. But I have toughened up since then and I tell myself that he's going to either go through this now or when he starts school.
