I am a STM but had my first 10 years ago. I cannot remember what they gave me. Can you all list out the items? Wondering if I should bother buying certain things myself or not. Thanks!
It really varies by hospital. Based on what I've seen people post on these boards before, some hospitals are much more generous than others.
I came home with mesh underwear and pads for me and diapers and wipes for LO. But very limited quantities of all those things. Probably the most valuable thing I got were the flanges from the pump that was in the room because they don't reuse them. They fit my pump at home so now I have extra parts.
Mesh undies, pads, lunch cooler thing, insulated cup for me. Diapers, wipes, A&D, ready to feed formula, homemade knitted hat, boogie sucker, comb and in the past a pacifier but recently hospitals in our area stopped this.
baby wash, a few pads and mesh undies, ice packs, booger sucker, a few bottles of formula, and diapers, a hat, blanket. We also got very limited amounts. I made sure to ask for more diapers and formula a little while before we left because they said to take everything we didn't use because they just throw them away.
Mesh undies and pads, insulated cup, and squirt bottle for the lady bits for me. For LO we got diapers, wipes, a comb, 2 of the little shirts they put her in, Vaseline, an insulated cooler with powder "breastfeeding formula," and a pacifier.
They sent me home with dermaplast, wash bottle (for me), travel bottle of Johnson's baby shampoo, opened diapers & dry wipes, ready-to-feed formula (since I was told to supplement until my milk came in) and nipples, the blue waterproof bed pads, nasal aspirator, the tubing for the breast pump, a comb, and a small basin/bowl to wash baby (for sponge baths).
My hospital gave me big pads, witch hazel pads, mesh panties, squeeze bottle and a sitz bath container. They also gave me some diapers and wipes for the baby and a nose snot. They also give you samples of either enfamil, similac or gerber.
For him: thermometer, nursery hat, baby wash, bulb aspirator, the rest of the package of diapers and wipes, pacifier, a little formula and a halo swaddle sleeper For me: remaining package of pads, a couple giant pads, 2 pair mesh underwear, abdominal binder (c-section), peri bottle, pump parts, nipple shield, insulated cup

Labored at freestanding birth center using hypnobirthing techniques
They sent us home with a giant bag full of diapers, 4 packs(more newborn diapers than he ever used), tons of wipes, 2 nipple shields, 8 white t-shirts (love them!), burp rags, 2 nasal aspirators and 2 blankets, for the baby. Lots of mesh underwear, cold packs for your underwear, witch hazel pads and pain relief spray for me!
12/20/13 probably 7 pair of mesh panties, several sizes of pads for me, but I requested an extra pack of one size and left the rest. Also, pad ice packs but I had an Emergancy section so I didn't need them. (I have a friend who is expecting so I really wish I had taken them anyway) one set of gel nipple pads and a very small tube of lanolin. An insulated cup and a very nice diaper bag. (Empty). I was told to take everything in the nursery cart except the blankets. (I took one blanket for memories . ) this included: one open bag of 20 diapers and what was left of the other bag we used while there. Three large packs of wipes. (Every time he left the room, they threw another in the cart because we kept taking them out. Wish I had done that with some other supplies). Two large packs of dry wipes. Snot sucker. Pacifier.( not the good green ones.. One called mam (?) ). Thermometer. About 6 long sleeve shirts that he grew out of quickly!! 4 hats. A few chucks pads. A&D full size. Bacitracin for his circ. Full size phisoderm baby wash and two pink tubs. I was surprised I didn't get grippy socks for me, but I had packed some. That's about it. He wasn't in the N diapers for long, we felt the size 1's just fit more snugly. I'll be giving the rest away.
for me- giant pads, mesh undies, dermaplast, peri bottle, ice packs and breastpump parts i used while i was there (and i now use as a manual pump when i need to)
for him- 2 hats, a couple receiving blankets, baby wash, couple days worth of diapers, pacifier, aspirator, vaseline, 2 swaddlers, cooler pack with powder formula and BM storage bottles, a bunch of ready to eat formula, and a couple of umbilical-stump-friendly long sleeved T-shirts (not sure if these were meant to come home with me, but they did :0)
I stole everything I went home with. :-\" Maybe they would have given it all to us if I'd asked, but they never offered either. I took home an opened pack of diapers, a receiving blanket, the nasal aspirator, and somebody those gigantic pads (for me). That's it.

I helped myself to some mesh undies, formula, an extra squirt bottle and some diapers.
