NBR: recommend your vacuum

And I don't mean "tell me what vacuum you have", I mean truly recommend your vacuum only if you love it.  I need to buy one, and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed.  We've got a cat, too, so bonus if it's good on cat hair.

If you are just bored and want to contribute something but hate your vacuum, you can also make this thread a gif party.  But only if that gif is Valentine's themed.

So, vacuums or gifs?  Go

  • We just got the dyson ball animal. I.LOVE.IT. That may be because we had the same vacuum for 5 years that my husband got used from some friends. I was horrified using the new one the first time and seeing what came out of my carpets. *gag*
But for real I love this vacuum. We got it cheap from a cleaning lady who got it for wholesale price.

  • We love our Oreck. Super light weight so it's easy up move around the house. We bought it as a package deal so we have the mini vac too and it's awesome for stairs/base boards/car/etc. Our dog doesn't shed but my parent's dog does and they have the same awesome vacuum!
  • I love our shark navigator that I bought from Costco and we have two dogs with tons of hair that drives me nuts! Make sure to replace filters every once in awhile. I buy mine in amazon and they are cheap.
  • Dyson but it is ball less. It is purple if that helps. :-/ I really do love it. I have had it for about 5 years and still works great. We just bought my mil the newer version of it (yellow one) on Over stock.com. It was reconditioned so we got a decent price.

  • Hmmm and overstock.com is now accepting bitcoin I hear...

I may need to do some shopping.

Does this one not come with those washable filters?
  • We have a Kirby. They're insanely expensive and it was actually kind of an issue between DH and I last year because a salesman came to our door and he'd always wanted one (his mom has one), and we bought one because we both felt pressured. It wasn't good. And we're still paying it off. So the price is definitely sucky, but so is the vacuum (ba dummmm chhhh). It's at least ten times better than any other vacuum I'm ever seen.

  • We have the Kirby as well. It is fabulous but super expensive.
  • I have an irobot roomba and love it!! We got it at Costco and it's the pet edition. I use it about once a day and it picks up so much debris I can't even see. Highly recommend.
  • We have a Shark Rotator. Love that thing. We have 3 dogs two of which that shed and it does great. We've only had it since Christmas though so I have no Input on longevity.

  • I have the Dyson ball as well (kudos for Dyson and good marketing). That being said, I really do love it for everything but the stairs. It is really inconvenient for the stairs. I have done a detail level vacuum on my car, have been able to really get the carpets clean- like gross! It works well on multiple surfaces; tile, hardwood and carpet. We have had it for 6 years and it is still just as strong as the day we purchased it. Highly recommended.

I am going to put a roomba on my Christmas list for next year. I want to be able to vacuum the main floor daily with LO and the dog all over the floofloor - especially when LO starts eating real food. DH'S aunt has it and it works really well for pet debris.

I have a family member with the kirby and I will warn that one thing they mentioned is the fact that it ruins their carpets after a while. In each round they dump from the bagthey notice there are a lot of carpet fibers. Basically it socks so hard that it thins their carpet every time they use it. They still love it though because they know it gets their floors super clean.
  • Yes it does but with all of the dog hair, I recently replaced it after three years and it's working so much better.

    Dyson Animal, hands down.

Also, their customer service is fantastic. DH couldn't remember when he bought it vaccum (it was before my time) and a part broke on the spinner thingy. He called up Dyson, they located his purchase history and send him a replacement part for free.

I love my Electrolux Nimble .... I don't have pets but it works great when my in laws visit with theirs. DH and I both have dander allergies and we haven't had a problem when they visit since we got this vacuum. It works well on bare floors and carpets. MIL does feel it's heavy but I haven't noticed. It was less than a Dyson, and you could use the 20% off at BBB on it. Filters are washable as well.

Same here! Both DH and my parents have them as well. My parents have had theirs for well over 10 years. Honestly, the place where we bought our vacuum sells Dyson and does repairs. The whole back of his shop was filled with Dyson vacuums that were there for repairs.

We have one already.  I'm not a fan of cleaning my hair out of the bearings every single time.  I don't find it cleans that well either.  It's OK for little carpet touch ups, but it has no chance against all this hair I've been shedding.

We use these in the museums.  Pretty fancy!

We can't afford Kirby's or Dysons.  We're trying to stay below $200.  I'm seriously eyeballing the shark navigator
  • We have a Dyson and a Roomba.  We have had the Dyson about 5 years and it still works great, but I wanted to not have to actually vacuum very often, so that's why we got the Roomba.  I love both!  The Dyson does a GREAT deep clean.  We have hardwood and carpet and it's great on both.  The Roomba runs itself on a schedule every day and is awesome for keeping the dog hair under control so I only have to vacuum every couple weeks.  We have 2 very hairy dogs (husky and border collie), so there is a lot of hair to keep up with!
Lots of love to my BFPB, Squishy622 <3
