An old friend from HS was complaining about being sick and went to the ER last night. I wake up today and she had given birth at an estimated 5 and a half months. She had stopped getting periods long ago when we were in school. The doctor said it was because she was so overweight. Apparently something was set right a few months back and she never noticed. She was always feeling crappy before so nothing felt like a change.
I always thought the show was complete BS but maybe not. I feel bad she has nothing for a baby.
ETA: I meant 6 and a half months.

He is in the NICU right now. I guess he is doing really well for having no prenatal care. She says he will be there at least two weeks and she will be released tomorrow morning. They named him Owen and the father picked it.

One of my best friends didn't know until 5 mos. pregnant....I guess she had always had very irregular periods and spotted intermittently throughout the five months, and just never felt much movement. Her main concern was the fact that she had been heavily drinking, going on vacation, etc. etc. and luckily her daughter, now 8, is doing fantastic.
She went on to have a son (that she knew about :-)) and she really looked about 4mos. pregnant the day she gave birth, so I guess she carries small as well.
She's thin and tall for the record, and still didn't know. Shit's cray.

Holy hell-- hope her LO is ok! I can not imagine that kind of shock.
I was looking at a pic of myself yesterday at my baby shower-- where I was about 7 months along (29 weeks) and I was HUUUUUGGGEEE. I know everyone carries differently, but I do find it hard to believe someone 6.5 months along couldn't tell they were pregnant.

I know this is semantics, but if your friend was pregnant, she was not having her period. She was experiencing some intermittent bleeding, which is fairly common, and she assumed that was her period.
I think if more women understood this, there would be less stories like this.

It was delighted when I was invited to the shower, but was VERY shocked when the due date listed on the registry was 2 days after the day of the shower!
Some aren't as aware of their bodies. I, however, am always wondering what every twinge, cramp, or headache means. lol
