Asking for opinion on the name Dani for a girl...

We are torn about a name for DD#2. We plan to use the name Danielle as either a first or middle name. DH (whose name is Daniel) and I like the name and want to use it - but do not LOVE it. He likes the nickname Dani for a girl. I am okay with it, but someone mentioned that Dani is a 'stripper name' and regardless of how stupid I think the comment was, it has stuck with me. So here's the question...do you think the name Dani has negative associations?

Name combos we kicked around:

Danielle Elyse (nickname Dani or Dani-Elyse)

Dani-Elyse (and scrap Danielle all together)

Erin Danielle

Thanks. DD #1 is Avery. We also like gender neutral names. Which is why Dani (and Erin for that matter) are clicking with us.

I think if I can get enough people to disagree with the stripper association then I can just write the comment off in my head.

I have a couple of friends name Danielle and we call them both Dani. I like it. I definitely don't associate it with a stripper name.

I think Danielle Elyse is a nice name. I would definitely use the full Danielle so your daughter can use it professionally some day. She may not want to be limited to "Dani."

I don't think of Dani as a stripper name at all.

My name is Danielle and my dads name is Daniel, I am and always have been so proud to be named after my dad

I was never called Dani (DH and close friends call me D)since my dad was Danny and I would have just been too confusing. That being said I think it's a great nick name for Danielle.

I would love to run into a little girl named Danielle, I feel like you don't see it much anymore!

Thank you all for the overwhelming positive feedback over the name selection. I agree that Danielle Elyse will give her options if she doesn't prefer Dani. This may be our newest front-runner name. DH and I both work for the public school system - so finding a name that we connect with that isn't attached to a previous student is tough. Now if I could just stop shoving food in my mouth - all would be good.

I prefer the full name Danielle for the given name. Dani is a great nn, and I don't associate it with a stripper name at all!

I really like Danielle nn Dani. Don't like Dani as a stand alone name, so no to Dani-Elyse. I don't think it's a stripper name. However, a lot of names I like, DH tells me are stripper name.

My name is Danielle and I was called Dani for the longest time when I was a kid. I have never heard of it being thought of as a stripper name. I love the names you have chosen. Elyse and Erin are names that I wanted but my husband nixed them

The first association I get with Dani is the little girl from the movie Hocus Pocus. And that movie is awesome, so....there you go.

Also, the reverend who performed my wedding was a Dani, so I absolutely do not associate it as a stripper name.

I don't think it's a stripper name at all. In fact, I went to high school with a girl named "Dani Elise". She was named after her uncle Danny and is a very sweet, pretty girl who has a daughter of her own now.

I have a cousin whose name is Danielle and she's been known as Dani her whole life and she is definitely NOT a stripper haha. I haven't ever associated that with being a stripper and honestly, that's the first time I've ever heard anyone say that . I love Danielle Elyse!

Happens to be my name...so I am bit biased. But I love the first - Danielle Elyse. My mother didn't want me to be called Dani, so my nickname has been Dee my entire life. Mostly only family calls me by nickname, but I do have some close friends that use it as well. I do not think stripper at all when I hear Dani. And the only people who have ever called me by that nickname were my British friends...

I don't think its stripper-ish. I went to school with a Dani. She never got made fun of. I, on the other hand, am a Codi... I got in lots of fights and picked on because of my boy name. It wasn't as common back then though. My mom also works with a Dani.

I am officially writing the association off in my mind. I was sure that I was missing some obvious pop-culture reference and am glad to find out it doesn't exist. DH is really starting to connect with the name and is happy to pass his name along (we are in the 2-girls club and think this will be it for us). As luck would have it, my mom isn't crazy about the name - but she hasn't liked anything we've mentioned thus far. The feeling is mutual though - I really dislike ALL of her name contributions.

DH and I will ultimately pick the name that we connect with that we feel suits DD#2.

My DH's gran is called Dani (Daniele - she's French-Swiss) and she pulls it off pretty well for an 84 year old woman. She's not a stripper, but I have no idea what she was up to in the war.

I won't share my unusual name on this public board, just to say that I've been called Dani as a nickname by my sister and close friends my whole life. I love it! It's definitely not my day-to-day name, just an affectionate name people close to me use. I never thought of it as a stripper name!

Danielle nickname Dani is better than just Dani, as most have said. (I think it's a fine nickname.)

If you wanted to get a little Renesmee about it you could go Danielyse, but please don't take that suggestion as a serious one.
