I love articles like this - I find trends fascinating, and this particular article has some really great graphs that look at name popularity over time and other various trends. Definitely take a look at it - I highly recommend going all the way to the very end - the last puzzling graph is absolutely fascinating!
@LilNunz1 I thought I'd read it, too, but the pub date says yesterday, so I figured I must have read something similar before - glad I might not be going totally insane.
But yes.. the last one... the decline is obvious- but I agree with his last "huh" comment
I have read this before, and DH and I use name voyager to check out the names we are interested in. Its a good article that makes a lot of sense. I have a strict rule that I do not want a name in the top 20. DH was one of 11 Michaels when we graduated 8th grade, one of two Michael C's, we had 3 Michel t's, two of which were Michael Taylor. While I have no control over the name when we have a boy (DH is the third and would like a fourth), I do have say so for girls name. I ruled Sophia out, even though it was one of my favorite names (I have been saying I was going to use it since about 4th grade, when I got a doll names Sophia).
Oh, the popularity of Sophia pisses me off. I have wanted to use it for at least 15 years now. People used to laugh at me when I first mentioned it ("That's such an old lady name!")
Now I swear to God I know at least a dozen -- all under the age of 5. I could never, ever use it now. Probably not even as a middle name.

This is really interesting but kind of makes me sad because both of my favorite names that I have loved for years and years are fad names:( Makes me think I need to re think names now.
This is amazing. @chickpea912, you consistently blow my mind. And I agree...who the hell named their kid "Adolf" after WWII?
@deepoceanmama I know, right? I mean, maybe you weren't really paying attention in the early 40s, too busy, whatever. But by the time the 50s and 60s rolled around, who was sitting there saying, y'know, Adolf is a great name! It just feels... like a good name to give to a baby... who might end up being one of the most horrific people that ever lived. Let's do it!
