That moment when you feel like you're really failing at being a mom

So today I really had a moment when I felt like I'm totally failing at the mom thing. This morning DD wouldn't go down for her morning nap. She hasn't been consistently napping in the morning for a couple weeks. So we moved on to our 1-nap routine: more play, lunch, nap. At lunch she wouldn't really eat anything. We had tuna melt sandwiches and zucchini risotto. She's never had tuna before but loves rice. After I'm done with my lunch and DD has barely touched hers, I take the tuna melt off her plate hoping she'll eat some risotto. She starts eating. I get the iPad to bump for a few minutes while she finishes her lunch. I'm busy reading TB and not really paying attention to what DD is doing. Then I look over, to check if she's done eating, and DD is asleep in her chair with her face in her (still full) plate. Mom fail!!! I felt so bad but it was so funny at the same time, LOL!

Are you kidding?? You sound like a great mom. Will you come make me a launch like that? My kids are getting spaghetti o's for lunch, and your kid has tuna melt and zucchini risotto? Come on! This will happen again, kids fall asleep at the table, face down in their food. Take a picture, and put them to bed. That's all you can do. Soooo not failing

We've been fighting naps today. I'm reaching my breaking point quickly. Only 5 more days until DH gets home!! Yippee! My most recent mom fail moment has to be when he was screaming at me this morning and I couldn't figure out why. Turns out he was hungry. I had offered Cheerios (a normal snack) and he just threw them so I figured not hungry. As a last resort before taking him out in public (he likes to people watch) I gave him one of those gerber graduates ravioli things and he scarfed them down followed by yogurt. Guess he just didn't like what I was offering. Oops.

Yeah I thought the tuna noodle casserole I have planned for dinner was fancy.

Happens to the best of us. My most recent mom fail was when I growled at a person trying to run a red light and from the back seat I hear something about "an idiot." Yes, dd, there was an idiot:/ I thought I was doing better at road rage...at least she didn't cuss at them, right!?

@pistolpackinmomma: I LOVE that your DS loves to people watch too!! Does he have a terribly awesome stank face when he does it? My 1 yo DS will stare at people with his brows raised as if he's saying WTF is wrong with these people. Love it. (Sorry on iPad, otherwise there would be a paragraph break here). My parent fail was last week when my 3.5 yo says, "mommy, do you say the word fuck?" So I told him no, that's a very bad word, mummy's don't say that. So he says "but daddy says the word fuck." So I told him mommy gets very mad when daddy says that word and daddy is very bad for saying it. Then DS starts to bawl telling me not to get mad at daddy "he didn't mean too mommy, it accident" anyway, it's more a daddy fail, and when I told DH he hung his head in shame.

He just kinda stares. He also likes waving at everybody. We sat at Panera for an extra 30 minutes the other day because he was content waving at the table next to us. Yes I am that mother that lets my kid wave at other tables. IGAF! The people after them weren't as friendly so we left. Lol. Sometimes he gets this weird look on his face like he needs me to explain what somebody is doing but normally my face has a matching expression when that happens!

That doesn't sound like a failure as a mom at all. That sounds like a good photo op moment.

My mom fail moment: forgetting that DD1 won an opportunity to ride in a limo last week and not writing it down and then freaking out when the school forgot to send my kid on the bus and raising a big stink only to find out it was limo ride day.

I don't think this is a Mom fail at all! I've got one for you...every once in a while, DD falls asleep in her high chair, like you're describing. Whenever she falls asleep, we just leave her be, usually head titled over to the side, snoozing away. I did not realize until this past week, when my Mom fiddled with the high chair, that it reclined. DD will be 2 in March. How did I not know in 2 years that the damn chair reclined? That's a Mom fail. My poor DD and the awful cricks she must get in her neck!

Thanks for the encouragements. I wish I had thought of taking a picture. And don't worry, lunch wasn't as fancy as it sounds. Risotto was leftovers from Saturday. I wanted some kind of protein but all I had left in the fridge was fruit and cheese. Then I found one leftover English muffin from breakfast this weekend and canned tuna in the pantry, so tuna melts it was.

I yelled at my son 5 minutes before I left for work this afternoon, because he was standing in the middle of the door, playing in a clean load of laundry where the socks I wanted were and throwing said clean socks in the kitty litter. Oh and I was running late.

Then I feel bad because what happens if I get into a car accident and never see him again and his last memories of me were me yelling at him. I try to call DH to talk to DS, but DH does not answer his phone.
