1/12 Downton- potential spoilers!

I scrolled down a bit and I didn't see a discussion for this week's Downton Abbey. If I remember correctly, we have a lot of viewers on this board. Anyone care to discuss??

I cannot get the last 10 minutes out of my head. I'm so angry and sad at the same time. I'm sure pregnancy hormones made my reaction 10x more extreme, but I was bawling.

Yeah, the end made me sad/angry too. Anna needs to tell Bates, he knows something is wrong. And Edna, she's trouble.

Oooh I really dislike Edna. She really needs to stay away from Tom. I also worry that Anna is going to wind up pregnant from this and have to suffer emotionally from that as well. I really hope that Anna and Bates survive this and that she shares with him.

I really hated it too! I just wanted to bawl crying but I think I was more stunned than anything. She is so sweet! I also that that new Lord guy will pursue Mary. And I too hate Edna. Tom is awesome and she needs to stay away.

I agree with the predictions. I said the same thing to DH while we were watching it. I think I like the guy pursuing Lady Mary.

I just finished watching this episode. I am sort of in shock. I don't think she will tell Bates - it was a different time, and part of me feels like she would be blamed for it (as horrible as that sounds).

Ughhhh! I was so sick watching the end of this episode! Who was calling out to Anna as she was walking outside? I started to worry it was that creep! I'm so sad for her and Bates...they need to catch a break

On a happier note, the new Lord interested (?) in Mary is super yummy if I do say so

I predict a pregnancy too. However, I think if she told Bates, he would keep it under wraps and raise it as his own, while in the meantime coming up with a vindictive way to destroy that terrible man. Ok, maybe not vindictive, thats in my fantasy. I don't think there is any chance that Bates won't find out eventually though.

Did anyone else think that maybe Edna drugged Tom with that whisky, and that she is about to trap him in something? I have a bad feeling about that scene. The whole "You should just go up to your room and finish that" didn't sit right.

I was so sad that happened to Anna! She's just so sweet. Yeah, I think a pregnancy is on the horizon too, ugh. I'm sure they didn't have paternity tests backs then!

I actually never watched the complete last episode of Season 3 because someone told me Matthew dies, and I saw a screenshot of him driving with his happy face, and I couldn't bear to actually watch it. Season 4 Episode 1 renewed my hopes that I could grow to love the show again. And then boom in this episode they do this to Anna. I just...ugh.

The last moments after Mrs. Hughes leaves the store room and Anna is just cowering in the corner...my god, she's a good actress. I burst into tears.

That was a really hard part of the episode to watch. I cried. I think the pregnancy thing will happen too. And I really think Edna is a scheming creeper.

I finally watched the episode last night and I was so upset about Anna and Tom. I agree with PP's predictions about the pregnancy. That was my first thought. Although, it could be because we are all pregnant! Either way, I'm sure this won't be going away anytime soon. I didn't realize the valet was with Mary's new suitor.

I actually knew that Anna was going to get raped at some point this season. Unfortunately, I came across an article online a couple weeks before the show started that let that one slip. I didn't read the article, so I didn't know the particulars, but I was kind of relieved that it happened in episode 2, so I didn't have to keep wondering all season.

I was really upset last year when Matthew dies, but it happened because the actor wanted to leave the show. He actually requested that the character be killed off. He didn't think there was a way to leave the show where he didn't die...

Now. The rape thing. I knew it was coming at some point this season. I don't like it, but I knew so I was a little more prepared. I just wanted Anna and Bates to have a bit of a "normal" season.

And I hate Edna. I hate the idea of her and Tom. I just want her gone. Tom has it hard enough without her causing trouble!

What @chickinNH said. He was leaving the show anyway, whether or not they killed him off. Which leads me to ask ... why did they kill of Sybil? As far as I know, she had no other commitments. If they knew they were going to lose Matthew, why did they write her out of the show? (And really, why did they write her out of the show AT ALL, because she was the best.)

I was SO upset with they killed off Sybil (Cora's reaction was heartbreaking), but I remember reading that the actor who played Matthew waited until the last minute to decide whether or not to continue, so that's why his death seemed so out of the blue and abrupt.

Also, I feel really bad for Mosley. I didn't really care for him while he was employed at Downton Abbey, but now the poor guy can't catch a break. I wish Matthew's mother would decide that she needed to hire him!

Ugh, I absolutely hated what happened to Anna. As a former sexual abuse victim, this was hard for me to watch. My heart was racing. I thought it was unnecessary. Downton has plenty of drama without that.

I do like Mary's new potential gentleman caller. I think that could be a fun relationship to watch.
