Excercise while waiting - opinions

Hi ladies. Hope you had a good weekend and are having a great start to a new week
During your tww, do you ladies excercise? I'm an elliptical freak but always feel timid during this time, what are your opinions?

    Yes.

Unless your doctor has told you otherwise, there's no reason not to exercise during your luteal phase. Most women seem to be told that they can continue their usual workout routines throughout pregnancy as well.

This. There certainly are cases where you shouldn't, but if that were the case, your doctor will tell you.

  • Thank ladies! I'm usually on the elliptical for 40 minutes but during my tww I usually bring it down to 25 and go at a slower pace! I hate getting inside my own head and freaking myself out
  • Both my OB and my PCP encouraged me to get back on the exercise wagon when I asked.

  • I say keep exercising, just don't get nutty with it. Everybody is different.  I'm not allowed to run during 2ww...RE says she worries it could mess up implantation.  I run five to seven days a week, so this is not great news for me - but, I follow my doctor's advice.  I'm going to start yoga again so that my brain doesn't get too freaky without the running. I'm super allergic to alcohol, so at least that part is easy for me. my feeling is that you should do whatever you feel good about...and some sort of exercise, even low impact, is always good.

  • I agree - keep on exercising unless your dr has said otherwise. I believe exercise is part of a healthy pregnancy (assuming there are no health issues that suggest otherwise). I also will have a 1/2 glass of wine with dinner during the 2WW . . . but that's just me.

  • Yep, doctor said to carry on as normal. However, if you are using some fertility treatments (sorry can't see your signature), they may tell you to ease up or switch what you do.

  •  I personally choose no alcohol but otherwise continue my pretty active lifestyle (I have a physical job) during the tww. It's good for your body and mind. I would do different if told by a doctor, of course.

Umm what?! That sounds awful. (As I'm having a scotch right now). Also, I've never heard anything about running messing up implantation - that's really strange. But I'm not a doctor, so I wouldn't know.
meladoriestar I knew that would cause alarm!  :) Yeah, I'm cursed with a hereditary genetic mutation that causes me not to be able to process alcohol.  I break out in hives and rashes if I drink even a tablespoon of alcohol.   That made college pretty interesting.  Anyway, it makes things simple now during the 2ww.  And I TOTALLY agree with you about the running not being a problem thing.  I'm super pissed about being told not to run.  I just sat there silently when she told me that. (I have been running all of my life and it is my sanity)  but, I feel like since the doctor just did surgery on my ute I need to trust her. (especially since there are some people making me crazy on this board who don't listen to their doctor and think we will support that)  I think for 99% of people, running is fine even when you are pg.  I'm not going to say that I am happy to be told not to run.

    eta: my bad spelling!
  • I think exercise is a great way to get your mind off the 2WW and reduce stress! It's not like you're doing an Ironman.

@tumbleweed123 My mom and sister both break out when they drink one sip of most stuff and my mom has hives, my little sister is not as bad she can have 1 drink but no more she found out while drinking in high school.  I'm a total light weight and think it might be I have half a bad gene.
As for no exercise in the 2WW I have gotten mixed reply one OB said increase activity one said do almost nothing (weight restriction on lifting no heart rate increase) and the MW said do what ever you normally do and no more.  They all agree to no climbing and no horses:-(
So it seems to depend on the Dr. and on the person.

  • Blackvelvet bummer about the no climbing and no horses thing.  That's no fun. One thing I've found really hard is that um, I'm not pg and I don't have a kid and now I've had this thing I love (running) taken away from me on top of it. It's emotionally very hard. You are so right about the advice varying doctor to doctor.  I've gotten different advice from every single doc I've asked.  I'm going with my current RE's advice, since she's who I'm currently working with. Yoga, here I come!

About the alcohol thing: I bet you're right -- you must have a heterozygous mutation.  My DNA results show that I have the homozygous mutation. I just can't drink.  My brother has zero mutation and he is fine. Luck of the draw!
  • I am so happy this topic was posted! I have been wondering about this one for awhile and keep hearing such conflicting things. I run 2-3 times a week and do yoga. My Dr always said I should keep it up during TWW and pg, but lately I have been reading some stuff that says it could mess up implantation. I also have read other stuff that says exercise increases fertility and is really good to do. I haven't known what to think so I have just been jogging instead of running during the 2ww- it probably doesnt make a difference but there is such conflicting stuff out there. I also don't drink once I O until I get AF.
@tumbleweed123 that is so tough not to be able to run! I totally understand. After my MC I also had a tendinitis in my foot and couldn't run for like 6 weeks. Running was the one coping mechanism I really needed, and it was horrible not using it. I think you should def try yoga and look for other things that help calm you- that's what I did and it helped a little.

  • I think it's great that all of you are so active! In the summer I'm all about biking, roller blading, swimming, and the gym. In the winter I'm like, "hey babe will you bring me another helping? I'm too lazy to get off the couch."
