Ergo Baby Carrier - Twins?

I've heard great things about the ergo and was hoping to get one until I found out we were having twins... DH says he will not wear a baby carrier. Does it even make sense to even buy one if I can only carry one baby at a time when I have two babies? Do any other MoMs use a baby carrier? What do you do with the other child who isn't being carried? Thanks :)

I love my ergo. My one twin always wants to be held so it's a life saver when trying to get simple household tasks done and the other twin I put in the mamaroo. When we go out one twin in the ergo the other in the car seat ( lots easier than lugging two seats) or one in the double stroller in the bassinet part and our 4 year old in the non bassinet part. My ergo gets tons of use

  • I've heard that you can carry 2 in a moby while they are really little. And that its really useful to wear one while playing feeding taking care of the other or while other is sleeping since it keeps your hands free and still gives wearing baby attn and love. I used money w my singletons and loved it! Hoping to find a way to make it work w twins :)

  • Thanks ladies! I will have to check out the Moby. I'd love to carry both if its safe (and possible!) so I can have free hands to clean, etc. :)

  • I'd say a baby carrier is even more helpful when you have two. You can wear the awake / needy one while the other chills / sleeps.

We have 2 ergos, but H is cool with wearing one.

We also wear them when we go out to places where a double stroller would be a pain / beast to maneuver.

Aww too bad you hubby wont wear a carrier! The playful saying in our house is "Real men wear their babies"  ;) My BIL even wore our older kids while they were little. They are currently fighting over who is going to be brave enough to wear the twins together in the Moby first.

We have an Ergo and a Mei Tai that we LOVE. My plan will be while they are small, and stroller is not an option, is to carry one on the front and one on the back. But I'm familiar with back carrying so this might not be an option for you right away.
  • I've actually seen a blog where a MoM wears 2 ergo's at once. She has a You Tube video you can check out that shows how she puts them on all by herself. Just type in ergo with twins on you tube and it should come up.

  • I am wearing one of my three month old twin boys right now. Ther were both screaming in their crib so I picked up the louder one and soothed the other with a pacifier and touch. Definitely get one. Also, after seeing how much the carrier soothes our boys my dh got one for himself. They really love being so close to mommy and daddy.

  • Yep, get a carrier. Like PPs have said, chances are one baby might be a bit more needy than the other, plus I'm still using my carrier at 15 months. I wear one and have the other in the cart while grocery shopping.

  • Yes, get one. It was the only way I EVER got anything done when I was on my own with the kiddos -- odds are they won't nap at the same time, and if they're happy in the carrier, you can actually, you know, make lunch or something.

Maybe get one that's black or something not off-putting so in case DH gets over his baby carrying baggage -- he won't be deterred by a super feminine carrier. ;)

yes, i used carriers a ton
when they were little they both fit in a maya wrap
when they were a bit bigger i used the ergo a lot.  either to carry one fussy baby, or to transport them both when i didnt want to use a stroller (one baby goes in the ergo on your front or back and you use one arm/hip to hold the other, leaving one hand free) - HUGE difference
in a pinch i've used an ergo and another ssc to carry one on the front and one on the back

I always had one in the car because I had a weird fear of getting stranded or something and needng to be able to take both of them without a stroller.
  • If you get two ergos you can wear them at the same time :)  I like putting one in the ergo and using an umbrella stroller if I am going someone that is crowded or has small aisles.
  • I have an ergo from my first and plan on using it for these two too. I considered getting a second one but I think I'll wait to see if it's necessary. DH has no problem wearing it, I just don't picture is both baby wearing at the same time. Probably more likely the scenarios in the pps, one wearing and the other in the stroller or the other sleeping, etc.

  • It is also nice to carry out to the car before they walk to stick one in an ergo or mei tai and carry the other.

Thank you ladies sooo much! Your responses definitely swayed my decision to go ahead and get an ergo! Hopefully DH will see how useful it is and decide he will wear one too. I'd love to wear both babies and I'm so glad it's possible (& thanks for posting that photo so I can see what it would look like @jessnicolodi) you ladies are seriously the best! :) thank you all again!

  • DH could also always change his mind once he sees how much work it is!

  • My Dh refused it, so I bought him anyway.  He used it sometimes while they were smaller, but overall it wasn't worth it to get him one.  He gets extremely hot while baby wearing and complains the entire time, but you can use two at once!

    Ditto
