Leashes

What is your opinions on leashes for children? I am thinking of getting one for Alexis. She hates being in the cart and doesn't want to be held. She tries to take off if we try to have her push the cart. This would give her some independence, but not too much. I was thinking of getting an animal or backpack one. Are there any that you have looked at or used if you have older children?

Re: Leashes

  • We are nowhere near that stage yet (DS just started taking a few steps), but I am no opposed to having a leash if needed, esp at crowded places.  OTOH, I haven't seen people using it much lately... seem to recall leashes were more popular a while back.

  • I'm not opposed to them either.  My BIL had on for my niece and he said it worked great but she didn't get tripped up on it a lot.  She would run and the location of the strap would make her fall (hard to explain)

  • I plan to get one. The backpack type. Kid is crazy fast, and not a fan of being confined in a stroller or being held for a long time.
  • My mom suggested one to me. Ashley is fast and I look at one thing on the shelf in the store and she is gone! She always has to be walking too. I might get the backpack one.
  • I am also a fan of the backpack leash.  I have to purchase one for Wesley put it has to be easier than always chasing him down.

  • I'm not so into them and I didn't need it at all for DS1 (he was a hand holder) so I didn't understand the point. Now LO is a runner they make more sense.  Also, my friend had twins and it looked like almost a necessity.

  • I have seriously considered one for Disney. DD has no fear of strangers. She takes off as soon as she's down and will go up to random strangers with her arms up for them to hold her.
  • I don't hate on them as much now as I did pre-baby. (Because pre-baby I had all the answers. Obviously.) But luckily we haven't needed one yet. She does good in the stroller/cart.

If you do get one, I like the look of the backpack ones. More subtle. LOL

  • I'm pro leash.  We took William to the Atlanta zoo yesterday, and he loved being able to walk around, and I loved the security of knowing he couldn't get too far away.  It's more of a 'crowded-place' thing for me. I wouldn't use it at the park, or grocery store, but zoos, amusement parks, airports, etc... heck yes.

  • I just put mine in my amazon cart for disney...not 100% sure we'll need it, but we're in the mindset of better to bring it and not need it than to not have it and need it.
