Our LO isn't developing tears when she cries anymore. I have a call in to the doctor, but I've not dealt with clogged tear ducts before. Anyone have any suggestions? Or at least a heads up on what the doctor will have us do? TIA!
Thanks ladies. We've been massaging the sides of her nose. She doesn't get tears every time either, but I've noticed in the last few days that she NEVER has them. Poor baby.
Now that I think about it, Elliot rarely has actual tears when he cries. I know he's not dehydrated because he pees up a storm. I wonder why he has tears sometimes but not always?
No medical basis for this, but I always assumed it was a developmental thing when they start having true emotions. I notice "real" tears closer to 6-7 months when they have more feelings instead of crying out of necessity.
That's probably it. I just think it's weird that there have been a few times where he has had tears. I always feel really bad when I see them - somehow it makes the crying even more sad.
Mine gets real tears when he is really mad. During his bath and in his carseaf sometimes he freaks out and has tears.
He had a clogged duct when he was a month old. To help it, while he was in the bath I would massage next to his eye on his nose. I could clean all the goop out easier since he was in the tub and it was soothing so he didnt move around.
DD started crying tears right after she was born. Big, huge crocodile tears. She is a bit of a drama queen when she cries, she makes the most heartbreaking wail and throws her head back with her lower lip and jaw quivering and has huge tears pouring down her face. It's the saddest and most adorable thing ever.
Update - Doctor thinks all is fine. Going to massage the sides of her nose still, but they don't think it's clogged because there is no "stuff" coming out. Like many of your LO's, she's just not developing them yet. Had me worried because she did have them a few times (and now that I think about it, it was really just when she got her 2 month shots and then a few other times when her eyes would just well up because her tummy was upset). Only reason I got worried is because the daycare pointed it out.
