If you weren't planning to, I would use your carseat on board the flight. My little can sleep in there easily so it might help them sleep during the flight. That's about all I got lol.
See, I prefer to fly without the carseat once they're over 2. The last overnight trip we were on using car seats, DS woke up, couldn't get comfortable, and ended up in my lap. Now we just strap the kids in, but let them lie down with their heads in my lap (I sit in the middle).
Also, not sure what time you leave but we've found it better to keep them awake until you go. We once tried to put them to bed, then wake them up to go to the airport (our flight was at 11pm). That little bit of sleep they got made it much more difficult to get them back to sleep on the plane.
