What do you do for you? (Stolen from SAHM board)

Good question from SAHM board: what things do you do for yourself on a daily/weekly (heck even monthly) basis? Examples- Starbucks, mani/pedi, read a book, exercise, trash tv?

  • I admit I don't get a lot of "me time" but it's something I need to try to prioritize more. Lately my goal has been to read more books, which I do before bed after all my prep for the next day is done. My guilty pleasure is watching Revenge (usually with a glass of wine). I usually treat myself to a Dunkin coffee once a week.

I would love to go to a yoga or Zumba class but it's next to impossible to find a time that fits my schedule, when DH is actually able to watch the kids. But part of this is b/c I don't make it a true priority, I need to try harder.

  • Also I "treat myself" to a bi-weekly cleaning service so I don't have to do it.

  • I go to a weekly girls night.  We either go out to dinner or go to someone's house.  It gives me sanity.  I also joined Weight Watchers recently.  I guess it counts as a "me thing" even thought it's not always 100% pleasurable.

Now that I'm expecting #2, I do weekly yoga, which I count as "me time" even though it's for the baby more than me.

After DD is in bed, I watch TV 3+ nights a week. That's definitely an indulgence that I probably will have to ease up on when #2 is here.

I grab brunch with once every couple of months and take my time - I'm out of the house for 3-4 hours on a weekend, when it would normally be family time. And I meet up for a long lunch or coffee with friends at work once a month.

I think if I was a stay at home mom though I'd need more "me time" just to get out of the house without the kids. With work, I have my lunch and coffee breaks, can socialize briefly with coworkers, etc so I don't feel that I'm missing so much adult interaction.

  • DH and DD usually sleep in on the weekends and I can't (my body is just so used to waking up for work and I have to pee anyway!) since I'm up that is my "me" time - I scrapbook or craft, and I definitely don't clean anything!!

  • I get at least one girls night/day per month where I meet up with a few girlfriends for manicures or something. I meet two of my girlfriends at the gym at least twice per week. I work from home and so do they, so it works out nicely. I get coffee whenever I feel like it. I used to have a housekeeper, but now that I work less I don't. I do still have her come once every few months to deep clean, usually before a holiday or event we are hosting. I take some time on the weekends to run errands and leave the kids home with DH, and usually get in some shopping for myself too. That's about it. I think I might just book myself a massage after reading this!

I read, but that's mostly while I pump, and once I'm not worried so much about milk supply, I'll get back into running again.

This post makes me realize I need to do more things for me.

@PrivacyWanted - I had stopped getting pedis because they could never hold up my high mileage, but eventually started doing shellac, which would hold up for about 3 weeks before starting to look like crap. And since I live in flipflops, it's a total boon. (I also am far too cheap to shell out for them in a salon and have my own set at home.. Get a mani/pedi in the salon, and then once the pedi goes downhill, spend 20 mins on shellac.)

I was just looking into getting a shellac set for home. Which one do you have? I've heard mixed reviews. My friend and I were considering having girls night in and doing each other's shellac while we watch The Bacehlor :) I am in a house of all boys so I need some serious girly time once in awhile.
  • I work out every day, which for me is long distance running, yoga and lifting.  I have the occasional girls night.  Probably twice a year girl's weekends away.  I get facials.  Pedicures during the warm weather.  I hang on the internet, drink some wine and watch a few shows throughout the week.

I do lots to take care of myself and my own well-being.

  • I get Starbucks every morning, try to get a massage every month, and work out with a personal trainer every two weeks and go to the gym 2 or 3 times a week. DH and I also go for a nice dinner at least once a month.
  • I have my one tv show that I watch once a week (Vampire Diaires).  DH always makes fun of me because he sees it's a show for teenage girls but I love it.  That's the only tv I get to watch so I look forward to it.
I also enjoy doing crafts.  Sewing, crocheting, making cute hair things for DD.  Sadly, because of lack of time it usually takes me awhile to finish a project once I start it.
My girlfriends and I also try to do a girls night every month or so.

  • I get a pedicure once a month in the winter...more like once every 3 weeks in flip flop weather. I try to do my own nails every other week. They chip so easily, its just easier to do them myself. I watch a LOT of trashy tv when I lay in bed at night...RHOBH,NJ,NYC..Scandal...Revenge...the Voice (not that thats trashy but still a guilty pleasure).  When I am home and DS is awake...I am 100% focused on him. So when he sleeps...I do anything I can to get my mind off work/chores/etc.
  • I'm on a bar trivia team. Every Tuesday night.

And as late as I get home, that even means that it's DH's one night to do bedtime, which is always stressful and takes forever even for me, but he's usually unsuccessful.

  • I do a lot of 'me time'. Daily, I work out during lunch. Once a month, I have my nails done, a massage, eye brow waxing, haircut/highlight(1x/qtr). I record shows and watch them after the girls fall asleep.

  • I go for a run at lunch (weather permitting). I also have a glass of wine every night (yep- every night) and DH and I watch shows in bed after the girls are asleep. On season 3 of Breaking Bad- this show is awesome! Where have I been?
  • DH and I hang out and watch TV after the kids go to bed.  I enjoy my co-workers and we usually go out to lunch once a week.  I do pedicures maybe once a month.

I do need to do something more regularly.  The problem is I don't want to commit to anything, but then I don't do anything, it's like a vicious cycle!  Before our youngest was born, DH and I often took turns sleeping in on the weekend.  Maybe we need to re-institute this.  I don't often sleep in, but would enjoy hiding in our room and taking a nice leisurely shower before facing the kids!
  • I workout during lunch 3x/week.

I watch 3-4 TV shows regularly with DH

I try to read a few nights a week whether it's a book or one of the 4 magazine subscriptions I have.

  • Hmm not much lately but I am getting some ideas from this thread! I do take coffee breaks pretty regularly at work. And sneak off to Target or TJ Maxx when I'm not too busy in the afternoons.

  • Once in a while (maybe once every 2 months), I meet up with friends for dinner after work.  Tonight happens to be one of those nights!  Most of the friends I meet up with are also working moms, so it's tough to get together more often.  Maybe once a week or so I will pick up a latte from my favorite coffee place.  One of my goals this year is to get back into shape, so I've been squeezing in short workouts (20-25 minutes) here and there, and my goal is to workout at least 4 days a week.  I read for maybe 30 minutes before I go to bed.  I watch 1 or 2 shows a week ('Once Upon A Time' is one of the shows) - we don't have DVR, so I watch when they're on.  Occasionally (maybe once every 2-3 months) I'll go to the mall, by myself, to shop for me.  Once a year I have a girls weekend.

  • I go to Starbucks daily. Enjoy a glass of wine while watching tv after DS goes to bed. I also get my hair colored and cut every 8 weeks along with a brow wax. DH and I try for date night once a month. DS's daycare sponsors a free date night every other month and we always attend.

I just watched all 6 seasons in a row!  I could not believe what we had been missing.  And I'm still slightly traumatized by the whole show.  :-/  But it is AWESOME.  Okay, sorry to hijack the thread.
